The Coos Bay School District is accepting applications for an experienced Teacher for our Emotional Growth Center (EGC).
The Emotional Growth Center Teacher serves as a resource for students whose educational achievement is significantly impacted by social, emotional and behavioral skill development. The teacher provides specialized support services to enable access and benefit from general education instruction.
Responsibilities include direct instruction in skill areas such as social skills, functional academic skills, problem solving, executive functioning, self‑regulation, organization and self‑management. The teacher also assists general education classroom teachers with behavior intervention strategies and the implementation of behavior intervention plans, and serves as an integral part of the MTSS team.
Performance Responsibilities- Creates an environment of safety, respect, and rapport.
- Establishes a culture for learning, manages classroom procedures, student behavior, and the physical space.
- Writes and utilizes short‑term and long‑term plans for instruction aligned with district goals, standards and curriculum.
- Plans activities of high quality and develops goals and objectives to meet identified student outcomes.
- Monitors student understanding and adjusts plans based on learning needs and styles.
- Implements a variety of instructional techniques, strategies, and materials conducive to student learning.
- Uses alternative and traditional assessments, provides timely feedback, and maintains a consistent grading system.
- Communicates effectively, positively, and timely with school personnel, parents, and the public.
- Collaborates with students, parents, teachers, administrators, and other staff, including IEP case managers.
- Maintains professional growth through ongoing skill and knowledge development.
- Upholds teacher‑student relationships in accordance with the “Ethical Educator” standards.
- Follows district job description duties, maintains regular attendance, and may monitor or proctor online instruction.
- Performs additional duties assigned by the Principal and/or Supervisor.
The employee is required to talk or hear frequently, walk, sit, stand, use hands for fine manipulation, reach with hands and arms, use a keyboard and video display terminal, stoop, kneel, or crouch, lift or move up to 10 pounds (occasionally up to 25 pounds). Vision required includes close distance vision and the ability to adjust focus and peripheral vision.
Work EnvironmentThe work environment is a standard classroom and school setting with typical equipment (assistive technology, copier, phone, Chromebook/computer, audio/visual equipment). Noise levels are usually low to moderate, occasionally high. Employees may be exposed to blood‑borne pathogens and to physically and emotionally dysregulated students.
