Job OverviewTo teach welding and manufacturing courses as assigned and to provide support leading to students successfully completing the program of study. The position is for the Academic Year (Sept 2026) and will be open until filled.
Instruction (80% of Time)- The primary purpose is to instruct program courses, which include welding, fabrication, manufacturing and related disciplines and to assist in coordination of the program, including degrees, associated certificates, part‑time faculty, and advisory committee activities.
- Teach course information to students in groups and individually using instructional methodology appropriate to the audience and to the subject (e.g., lecture, demonstration, group discussion, technology‑enhanced delivery, computer‑assisted delivery, and distance delivery). Must be able to explain and deliver materials in a variety of ways to meet the needs of a broad range of learning abilities.
- Curriculum development and modification by working with the Instructional Dean and other department faculty members in developing or modifying course content, course objectives, standards and instructional methods, degree and certificate programs. Curriculum development may include projects such as revising and creating new courses in support of southwestern’s articulated programs of study with partner universities. Finally, instructional work includes curriculum review and redesign that typically accompanies program reviews.
Institutional Duties (20% of Time)
- Demonstrate continued professional growth by staying current in and expanding knowledge of subject area(s) and teaching techniques through a plan of professional development. Attend conferences and professional meetings.
- Participate in committees and other institutional duties as described in the faculty collective bargaining agreement.
- Participate in committees and collaborate with grant‑funded stakeholder groups, including hosting bi‑annual advisory committee meetings.
- Advise students as assigned. Meet with advisees at least once each term to assist students in determining goals, inform students of program and degree requirements, review student schedules and progress, and refer students to needed services. Maintain records of advising sessions.
- Participate in recruitment and retention of students, marketing of courses and programs, and outreach to schools and agencies.
- Support college leadership in developing departmental goals and objectives as part of the institution’s continuous improvement cycle; participate in the college wide accreditation process.
- Attend student convocation ceremony at the end of each academic year.
Execute additional duties and projects as required or assigned.
Required Qualifications- Associate’s degree in Welding/Manufacturing. Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Technologies, Education, Engineering, or closely related field preferred.
- Sufficient industrial experience in welding and manufacturing, with demonstrated expertise and proficiency.
- Mastery of subject area to instruct and coach students effectively, evaluate programs, and develop curriculum materials.
- Knowledge of or ability to learn teaching methods suitable for a variety of ages, backgrounds, and learning abilities.
- Ability to collaborate with faculty, staff, and industry partners in curriculum and instructional development.
- Effective written communication in English.
- Computer literacy sufficient for word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and student information systems.
- Willingness to travel and/or teach at various hours as required.
- Strong organizational and time‑management skills.
- Data entry proficiency and accuracy in database management. Comfort with advising via video and online technology is a plus.
