Early Childhood Special Education Assistant
To assist the ECSE teacher in designing, implementing, and monitoring programs for identified children between the ages of three to five.
Essential Functions:
- Helps implement and monitor programs for stimulating early cognitive, adaptive, social, motor and communication skills.
- Assists students with toileting, hygiene and feeding.
- Provides input for writing and updating student programs.
- Keeps teaching materials and other equipment in order.
- Completes paper work as requested by the ECSE teachers and specialists.
- Prepares bulletin boards, room decorations and other materials as needed.
- Demonstrates familiarity with appropriate instructional materials and equipment.
- Assists with supervision of students in all settings.
- Types and files paperwork, as needed.
- Works harmoniously with other employees and deals tactfully with the public.
- Maintains confidentiality at all times.
- Assists with lifting and positioning of students.
- Maintains regular attendance to preserve the continuity of service delivery for the program.
- Attends all required program meetings.
- Meets standards for competent and ethical performance.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
- Excellent skills in spoken and written language.
- Ability to work harmoniously with a wide range of staff.
- Experience working with children under the age of five.
- Respect confidential information.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Current first aid card and CPR card.
- Works in regular or special education setting and/or in community settings.
- Competent in conflict resolution.
- Effective communication in confrontational and emotional situations.
- Ability to prioritize conflicting demands.
- Ability to stand up to 30 consecutive minutes and move rapidly to intervene in safety situations.
- Outdoor supervision may be required during inclement weather.
- Ability to lift materials, boxes or equipment weighing up to 30 pounds.
- Participate in lifting/moving equipment weighing up to 40 pounds.
- Participate in lifting students weighing up to 80 pounds.
- Contact with biohazards and appropriate protective precautions.
- Provide intimate hygiene care to students.
- 10 month classified position.
- Union: OSEA Chapter 119.
- Rate: $18.96 - $20.13.
- First consideration for this position will be given to Chapter 119 members of the collective bargaining unit.
- A fingerprint-based criminal history investigation will be required.
