Job Description: Provide patient and family care as part of the healthcare team in accordance with the mission, vision, and policies and procedures of Bay Area Hospital. Monitor and adjust environment to maintain safety in the environment of care. At the direction of the RN, may assist in feeding the patient and in activities of daily living. The safety assistant provides added safety for patients who demonstrate behavior detrimental toward self or others.
Skills and Abilities- Maintains regular, consistent, and punctual attendance at the assigned job location
- Recognizes and reports abnormal occurrences
- Knows the fire plan and escape routes for patient and self
Demonstrates competence by ongoing completion of any or all of the following:
- Proficiency testing
- Skill demonstration
- Practice of core standards for service excellence
- Provides patient care and performs tasks using job skills, growth, and development knowledge
- American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) at time of hire
- SAFE class or organization‑approved workplace violence training or obtain within 6 months of hire which must be obtained by the last day of the month after the 6 month grace period
- High School Diploma or Equivalent preferred
- Effective communication skills both verbally and written

Physical/Mental/Environmental Requirements- Able to sit, stand, walk, bend, squat, reach, and stretch frequently
- May be required to lift up to 50 pounds
- Must use standard precautions due to threat of exposure to blood and body fluids
- Needs ability to communicate effectively through reading, writing, and speaking in person or on telephone
- Requires frequent use of personal computer
- Must demonstrate manual dexterity
