Build something people love

Wealthsimple is on a mission to help everyone achieve financial freedom by reimagining what it means to manage your money. Using smart technology, we take financial services that are often confusing and expensive and make them transparent and low-cost for everyone. We’re the largest fintech company in Canada, with 3+ million users who trust us with more than $100 billion in assets.

And we’re just getting started.

We’re looking for someone who thinks big, sweats the small stuff and keeps things simple. You’ll join a high-bar, fast-paced team where people are trusted to own their work, communicate openly, and ship things that improve our clients’ lives. Collaboration, humility, and an obsession over quality are how we get stuff done.

About the Role

Reporting to the Head of Investment Research, the Manager of Portfolio Management will lead, develop, and inspire a team of licensed portfolio managers. This is a critical leadership role focused on ensuring exceptional client support, consistent investment advice, and the operational excellence of our digital portfolio management systems. You will be a passionate leader who can navigate complex client situations and contribute significant thought leadership to the organization.

Your

Impact

You will directly influence the quality of advice delivered to thousands of clients by coaching and mentoring a high-performing team of portfolio managers. Your operational oversight will ensure the integrity and efficiency of the systems that manage client money, while your thought leadership will shape our external content and internal advice frameworks. Ultimately, you will be instrumental in ensuring that our managed clients receive consistent, high-quality, and compliant portfolio management.

In this role you’ll have the opportunity to:

  • Run a team of licensed portfolio managers responsible for supporting clients for whom we manage money.
  • Coach, train, develop, and inspire entry-level portfolio managers.
  • Oversee and provide input on our digital portfolio management systems and processes used to manage client money.
  • Engage with high-value clients or complex situations.
  • Provide supervision, oversight, and approval for situations and advisor requests that fall outside of normal policies and procedures.
  • Work with investment research, product, compliance, and other stakeholders to facilitate special projects (e.g., portfolio updates).
  • Collaborate with leaders of Dedicated Human Advice teams to set up training and quality control processes for consistent, high-quality investment advice.
  • Provide thought leadership on investment and personal finance issues, working with content and investment research teams to ensure quality and insight in our published work.
  • Partner with leaders across sales, service, IR, and compliance to develop policies, procedures, and frameworks for delivering advice the Wealthsimple way.
What you’ll bring:
  • Is a natural and inspiring leader with strong people management skills.
  • Is passionate about investing, portfolio construction, and personal finance, with a genuine curiosity and commitment to continuous learning.
  • Possesses excellent soft skills, capable of engaging high-value clients and stakeholders across the business.
  • Is highly process-oriented, with an eye for operational efficiency and compliance.
Skills and Experience
  • Licensing:
Ability to be licensed as a Portfolio Manager (unrestricted portfolio manager), which requires a CFA or CIM designation plus relevant investment management experience.
  • 4+ years of experience working with clients on a discretionary basis.
  • At least 2 years of people management experience.
