Job Overview
Aptim Federal Services, LLC (APTIM) has an opening for an analytical chemist to provide analytical data audit and data validation support under two APTIM subcontracts with GDIT:
Quality and Sample Support (QSS) and Science and Technology Support (STS) EPA Scientific Support for the Great Lakes National Program Office (GLNPO) in Las Vegas, NV.
Evaluate laboratory organic analytical data for data audit and data validation purposes from various instrumental methods following the standard/published method/standard operating procedures (SOPs) from analytical techniques and instruments including, but not limited to, the following:
- Gas Chromatography (GC-FID/ECD) for pesticides, Aroclors, CB Congeners, and herbicides
- Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry (GC/MS) for VOCs, SVOCs, SVOC-SIM, and polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH)
- Higher Resolution GC/High Resolution MS (HRGC/HRMS) for polychlorinated diobenzo-dioxins and
-furans (PCDDs/PCDFs) - Liquid chromatography-triple quadrupole mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) for perfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS)
- Total Organic Carbon (TOC)
- Diesel Range Organic, Gasoline Range Organic (DRO/GRO)
- Ion Chromatography (IC) for anions
- High Pressure Liquid Chromatography (HPLC)
- Inductively Coupled Plasma Optical Emission Spectrometry (ICP-OES)
- Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (ICP-MS)
- Wet Chemistry and Extractions
Perform Data Audits of Contract Laboratory Program (CLP) Data with an understanding of and against the following requirements:
- CLP methods SFAM
01.1, SFAM
02.x, SAMP
01.x, and HRSM
02.x Statement of Work Requirements - Staged Electronic Data Deliverable (SEDD) data assessment including SEDD Stages 2a, 2b, and 3
- CLP SOW QA/QC, data integrity, and quality requirements as outlined in the SOWs.
Perform data validation with and understanding of and against the following guidelines:
- CLP National Functional Guidelines (NFG) for Organic Data Review
- CLP National Functional Guidelines for Inorganic Data Review
- Guidance on Data Verification and Data Validation (EPA QA/G8)
- Region-specific data validation Sops
- QA/QC requirements described in Project-specific Quality Assurance Project Plans (QAPPs)
- Assign data qualifiers to the analytical hardcopy data and electronic data deliverables (EDDs) per the relevant guidance document(s)
- Experience and understanding sufficient to enable application of professional judgement in assigning data qualifiers
Support Report Development as follows:
- Data audit reports that document deficiencies using standardized data audit comments for identified data audit, electronic audit, and SEDD defects
- Tier 1 and Tier 2 Data validation reports that include a cover page, summary table, and detailed comments on QA/QC
- Perform peer review of data audits and data validation performed by other team members
Additional responsibilities:
- Provide training to junior data auditors/data validators
- Perform peer review of data audit and data validation reports
- Compile method/SOP quality controls (QCs) and assist with developing and updating data audit and data validation standard operating procedures (SOPs) as required
- Maintain paper/electronic laboratory notebooks and document analyses consistent with EPA policies and procedures.
- Prepare and make oral presentations to EPA as directed.
- B.S. or M.S. in scientific field (preferably chemistry) with 10+ years of related experience.

As of the date of this posting, a good faith estimate of the current pay range for this position is $70,020- $116,786 Compensation depends on several factors including: experience, education, key skills, geographic location of the position, client requirements, external market competitiveness, and internal equity among other employees within APTIM.
