Overview

Campus Safety Officer is responsible for promoting the safety and well‑being of the College community by implementing College policies and procedures and adhering to Oregon DPSST Private Security Professional standards. The officer provides patrol services on campus, observes, reports, and safely intervenes in criminal or illegal acts, and reports to external partner agencies. The officer responds to fire or medical emergencies and coordinates with outside agencies.

Parking

and Patrol Responsibilities (85% of Time)

Patrol campus buildings, grounds, student housing, and property using a motorized vehicle or on foot to prevent theft, fire, vandalism, and personal injury. Provide security to students, staff, and the public.

Provide information and assistance to students, staff, and the public, delivering emergency messages as needed.

Survey campus during patrols, noting unsafe conditions and taking discretionary measures when necessary.

Conduct targeted patrols in response to specific requests to prevent workplace violence, and perform loss‑prevention patrols with notifications for asset protection. Assist in threat management identification, response, and de‑escalation.

Patrol campus roads and parking areas, warning or citing violators creating hazards by disobeying college traffic and parking regulations. Contact towing agencies when necessary to maintain fire lanes and parking areas or other hazardous situations.

Establish and maintain positive relationships with staff, students, and the public, conducting oneself in a courteous and professional manner while strictly adhering to college policies and procedures. Model and support a community‑oriented policing model.

Unlock buildings and gates as requested by authorized personnel and ensure buildings are secured upon departure.

Provide assistance for emergencies such as medical and fire; give emergency first aid including CPR and use of an AED; determine if an ambulance or other medical assistance is required and call the appropriate agency.

Policy Enforcement (10% of Time)

Enforce the Student Conduct Code, College Safety and Security Policies, and Student Housing Conduct Code proactively, educating staff, students, and the public on such policies.

Report violations of the Student Conduct Code, College Safety and Security Policies, and Student Housing Conduct Code, unsafe conditions, and illegal criminal acts to the lead on duty and/or police agencies as appropriate.

Cooperate with police and/or emergency service agencies regarding the apprehension of offenders and the investigation of offenses. May conduct interviews and investigations concerning complaints, accidents, violations, and calls for assistance, recording information on thefts, physical violence, and other incidents and advising individuals on how to proceed.

Warn persons trespassing or violating college policies and established procedures.

Monitor various types of equipment including sewage treatment pumps.

General Duties/Recordkeeping (5% of Time)

Provide money drop service, assist in department closures, and escort individuals to their vehicles upon request.

Accurately complete daily activity logs and prepare handwritten or computer‑generated incident reports for occurrences on campus.

Follow safety procedures, building codes, and maintain a clean and orderly work area.

Collect and process lost and found items.

Required Qualifications

High school diploma or GED/equivalent.
Three (3) years of experience in a private or public security position.
