Position: Certified Public Accountant (CPA) – Real Estate Accounting

Job Overview

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Certified Public Accountant (CPA) specializing in Real Estate Accounting to join our dynamic finance team. In this role, you will leverage your expertise in accounting principles, regulatory compliance, and real estate finance to ensure accurate financial reporting, compliance with industry standards, and strategic financial analysis. Responsibilities
  • Prepare and analyze financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow reports, ensuring adherence to GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and regulatory standards.
  • Manage accounting functions such as general ledger reconciliation, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and bank reconciliations with precision and timeliness.
  • Oversee regulatory compliance accounting related to real estate transactions, tax filings, and industry-specific reporting requirements.
  • Conduct detailed analysis of financial data to support investment decisions, mergers & acquisitions, and asset management strategies.
  • Maintain accurate records of property transactions, lease agreements, and escrow accounts while ensuring compliance with securities law.
  • Utilize advanced accounting software such as Quick Books, Xero, Sage, or similar platforms for bookkeeping, financial report writing, and data management.
  • Assist with auditing processes by preparing documentation for internal or external auditors and supporting SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley Act) compliance initiatives.
  • Support estate planning activities by preparing relevant financial reports related to wills, trusts & estate law.
  • Contribute to budgeting processes by analyzing variances and providing insights into financial planning for real estate projects.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams on tax planning strategies involving tax accounting, securities law compliance, and regulatory reporting.
Requirements
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification is required; active licensure is preferred.
  • Proven experience in public accounting or corporate accounting with a focus on real estate or property management.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, technical accounting standards, and regulatory compliance accounting practices.
  • Demonstrated expertise in financial analysis, financial report interpretation, and financial statement preparation.
  • Proficiency in accounting software such as Quick Books, Xero, Sage, or similar tools; experience with financial software for asset management is a plus.
  • Solid understanding of double entry bookkeeping principles including debits & credits; experience with balance sheet reconciliation is essential.
  • Familiarity with LIHTC programs, non-profit accounting practices, and regulatory reporting requirements related to real estate investments.
  • Excellent analysis skills with the ability to perform account reconciliation and detailed account analysis efficiently.
  • Knowledge of securities law as it pertains to real estate investments; experience in mergers & acquisitions is advantageous.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment; attention to detail is critical.
  • Effective communication skills for preparing comprehensive financial reports and collaborating across teams involved in financial planning and asset management.
