Job Description

New Horizon Counseling Center (NHCC) is a leading non‑profit behavioral health organization licensed by the New York State Office of Mental Health (OMH), and New York State Office for People with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD) and New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS). Our excellent reputation reflects 30 years of experience in meeting the needs of the communities we serve.

New Horizon Counseling Center provides its staff with far more than just a place to work. Rather, we are an organization you can be proud of and where you'll feel good about devoting your time and your talents.

We are seeking qualified Family Support Navigators for our outpatient clinics in Valley Stream, Copiague and Smithtown.

The primary goal of the Family Support Navigator program is to utilize expertise associated with addiction and recovery experience; provide education, support and resources to families impacted by addiction. Family Support Navigators (FSN) will assist families and individuals with navigating substance abuse treatment, support services and local resources.

Salary: $40,000 to $45,000

Responsibilities include:

  • Develop relationships with local prevention, treatment, and recovery services, managed care organizations, local addiction councils and community stakeholders to assist with accessing local treatment and support services.
  • Assist families struggling with addiction issues, to navigate insurance barriers and connect them to appropriate services. The term family refers to persons or a group of people an individual deems as significant in their life.
  • Meet with families in the community setting of the family’s preference.
  • Provide services to both Nassau and Suffolk Counties.
  • Be available evenings and weekends as needed.
  • This is not a clinical role, but one of education, goal planning, and connecting those in need to services and supports.
  • FSN’s are required to obtain and maintain a Certified Recovery Peer Advocate Credential as defined by ASAP NYS and NYS OASAS.
