Assistant Controller

Description

We are looking for an experienced Assistant Controller to join a retail organization in Coppell, Texas on a 4 month Contract basis. This position will provide critical accounting leadership and hands-on support during a busy period, with a strong emphasis on close activities, financial accuracy, and timely reporting. The ideal candidate brings deep accounting expertise, works effectively with minimal supervision, and thrives in a fast-moving environment where precision and follow-through are essential.

Responsibilities:

- Drive monthly, quarterly, and annual close activities to help ensure complete and timely financial results.

- Prepare, review, and post journal entries while maintaining accurate general ledger records and supporting documentation.

- Complete detailed account reconciliations and resolve discrepancies by researching underlying transactions and balances.

- Assist in producing financial statements and internal management reporting packages for leadership review.

- Evaluate account fluctuations and investigate variances to strengthen the accuracy of financial reporting.

- Partner with the Director of Accounting and business teams on priority accounting projects and operational initiatives.

- Support internal and external audit requests by organizing schedules, documentation, and responses to inquiries.

- Identify opportunities to improve accounting workflows, controls, and reporting efficiency in a dynamic environment.

Requirements - 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including direct responsibility for month-end close activities.

- Strong knowledge of general ledger accounting, reconciliations, and financial reporting practices.

- Experience supporting financial statement audits and compliance-related accounting processes.

- Advanced Excel skills with the ability to analyze data, build schedules, and manage large datasets.

- Experience with large ERP platforms such as SAP or Oracle is preferred.

- Familiarity with DCAA-related requirements is a plus.

- Proven ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet demanding deadlines.
