The Associate Director of Planning & Procurement will be responsible for leading the integrated functions of planning and purchasing to ensure on-time supply of materials, accurate demand planning, efficient inventory management, and cost-effective procurement. This role bridges the gap between production planning, material availability, and supplier performance, ensuring that BMSC meets its customer commitments while maintaining operational efficiency and cost competitiveness.
Responsibilities and Essential Duties
Strategic Leadership
- Provide direction and oversight for Planning (Master Planning, Inventory, Data Integrity, and E&O management) and Purchasing (Integrated Buyers, MRO, and Expediting).
- Partner with the Director of Supply Chain to align department goals with company objectives around cost, service, agility, and quality.
- Develop and implement standard processes, KPIs, and reporting to drive accountability and transparency across teams.
- Oversee Master Planning, ensuring demand and capacity alignment across all product categories.
- Drive improvements in forecast accuracy, production scheduling, and resource utilization.
- Lead initiatives in inventory optimization, balancing working capital with customer service requirements.
- Ensure accurate and timely maintenance of planning data integrity across systems.
- Manage E&O (Excess & Obsolete) mitigation strategies and reporting.
- Maintain a strong working knowledge of compliance requirements, including cGMP, FDA, and other applicable regulatory guidelines, to ensure that planning and procurement activities align with company standards and industry regulations.
- Oversee supplier risk management processes, including qualification, audits, performance monitoring, and corrective actions, to safeguard continuity of supply and mitigate potential disruptions.
- Partner with Quality, Operations, and Regulatory teams to ensure supplier documentation, certifications, and contracts meet governance expectations.
- Ensure planning and purchasing practices support successful audit readiness (internal, customer, and regulatory) through accurate record-keeping, data integrity, and proactive risk assessment.
- Drive governance discipline across planning and procurement by embedding compliance checkpoints into daily workflows and ensuring corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) are completed effectively.
- Direct and mentor Integrated Buyers, MRO Buyer, and Expeditor roles to ensure timely issuance of purchase orders, supplier follow-up, and risk mitigation.
- Build and maintain strong supplier relationships to ensure on-time delivery and competitive pricing.
- Collaborate with Quality and Operations to ensure suppliers meet specifications and compliance requirements.
- Lead sourcing initiatives and negotiations to optimize cost while ensuring supply continuity.
- Develop contingency plans and escalation processes for late, constrained, or critical materials.
- Coach and mentor managers and individual contributors across Planning and Purchasing functions.
- Foster collaboration between planning, production, engineering, and quality to ensure seamless handoff of information and execution.
- Drive a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and professional development.
- Build capability in planning systems, procurement processes, and operational problem-solving.
- Partner with Operations, Quality, Supply Chain, and Finance to balance service, cost, and inventory objectives.
- Provide clear reporting to Plant Operations leadership on planning adherence, supplier performance, and inventory risks.
- ERP/MRP Systems expertise; advanced knowledge of ERP systems like Sage X3, SAP, oracle, or equivalent.
- General understanding of cGMP, FDA requirements, audit readiness, and supplier risk management practices.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and decision-making skills.
- Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams in a fast-pasted, high-complexity environment.
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Operations, or related field.
- 8 to 10 years of experience in planning, procurement, or supply chain operations, with at least 3 years in leadership role.
- Strong background in production planning and purchasing with emphasis on sourcing and supplier management within a manufacturing environment.
- Strong excel skills (advanced formulas, Power Query, and pivot tables).
- Enter text. Regularly sit, stand, and walk for extended periods of time.
- Ability to sit, balance, climb, stand, bend, squat, squeeze, kneel, turn, crouch, and stoop repeatedly.
- Physically able to lift 25 pounds on a regular basis without restrictions.
- Frequent exposure to varying temperatures, loud noises, heavy machinery, fumes, or airborne particles, electrical, chemicals, and moving parts.
- Prolonged use of computer screen and/or scan gun.
