Lead Estimator

Job Overview

Lead Estimator – manages a group of senior estimators and estimators to ensure all estimates under supervision are complete and meet expectations. Responsible for planning, preparing, and completing bid/submittal documents and cost estimates for electrical construction projects.

• Work with senior estimators to create an execution plan and prepare the estimate from quantity take‑off to computer printout.
• Identify key parts of the project that may be critical for a competitive estimate and evaluate potential value‑engineering cost savings.
• Review proposal specifications, drawings, and attend pre‑bid meetings to determine scope and required contents of the estimate.
• Provide leadership, ensure processes and procedures are followed, and review labor productivity and installation unit costs based on projected conditions and historical data.
• Review quotes for completeness and conformity with plans and specs; ensure timely completion of all client‑required documents.
• Review scope/proposal letters for bid and negotiated projects; give the Chief Estimator a detailed review before issuing the formal bid package.
• After successful bid and project turnover, meet with Project Management to explain job scope and potential areas of attention for a smooth transition.

• Advanced knowledge of estimating techniques, construction technology, and cost control.
• Experience reading and interpreting blueprints and engineering design drawings.
• Proficient in using Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).
• Strong arithmetic skills and ability to estimate all types of projects.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Self‑motivated, able to work independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks under time pressure.

• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 10+ years of estimating experience or related role in closing construction estimates.
• Experience with Accubid Enterprise, Livecount and Bluebeam preferred.
• Experience with CAD or 3D software preferred.
• Combination of education, training and experience may be acceptable.

Travel up to 10%. General work environment: sitting, standing, walking, typing, carrying, pushing, bending. Indoor work with lighting, air conditioning; noise level low to medium, sometimes loud on jobsite. Occasional lifting up to 30 lbs.
