Overview

The Director of Engineering – Data Centers is a key leadership role responsible for guiding regional engineering strategy, operations, and performance. This leader oversees engineering teams delivering state‑of‑the‑art data center designs—including next‑generation AI‑focused facilities—while influencing strategic direction and overall engineering excellence.

• Report directly to the Senior Director or Vice President, Engineering and participate in senior management planning.
• Develop and oversee the Engineering operation in the assigned region, anticipating, planning, and mapping group, team, and staff skills.
• Recruit, train, and deploy staff throughout the region and provide HR and budgetary oversight for the Regional Engineering group.
• Develop proposals, present, and secure work on behalf of the firm, independently or in collaboration with others.
• Direct preliminary engineering activities—project development, programming, or schematic design phases—especially for large‑value or high‑risk work.
• Direct project close‑out, installation, or manufacturing QA/QC, testing, and commissioning operations on behalf of the Operations group.
• Act as the firm’s emissary for dispute resolution or sensitive client negotiations when required.
• Work independently with minimal direction, using executive-level guidance to develop complete action plans for required deliverables.
• Develop or oversee complex, interrelated project‑specific work such as sequences of operations, equipment/system testing scripts, or complex engineering products.
• Visit project locations to ascertain conditions, perform feasibility studies, test factory‑built systems before shipment, and conduct field investigations.
• Conduct value engineering evaluations and fully engineered designs, evaluating project/system design criteria and budgetary issues.
• Support the firm’s Pre‑Construction efforts, especially in Estimating and Business Development, including identifying and developing leads and closing new work.
• Maintain external customer relationships throughout the term of the relationship or project and review contract requirements.

• Advanced knowledge of building systems electrical engineering, manufacturing, or technology.
• Advanced management skills, including planning, resource management, fee development, staff oversight, development, and advancement planning.
• Advanced knowledge of equipment and system testing and commissioning.
• Ability to analyze and resolve technically complex engineering problems.
• Proficient computer skills;
  Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.) and Oracle preferred.
• Strong prioritization and multitasking abilities, with the capacity to handle multiple tasks and changing priorities under time pressure.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.
• Self‑motivation, proactivity, and effectiveness as a team player.
• Professional interaction skills with all employee levels, vendors, clients, trade partners, and others.

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college in electrical engineering, architectural engineering, construction sciences, or a related discipline.
• Typically 12+ years of related work experience, which may be a combination of education, training, and relevant experience.
• Registration as a licensed U.S.‑based Professional Engineer (P.E.) is required.

Up to 50%.

General work environment includes sitting for long periods. Tasks involve standing, walking, typing, carrying, pushing, bending. Work is primarily indoors with variable lighting and air conditioning, and low to medium noise level with occasional higher noise at job sites. Occasional lifting of up to 30 lbs.
