Overview

The Field Payroll Supervisor is a people manager who oversees the accurate processing of payrolls and time records for assigned payrolls, collaborates with cross‑functional teams, and ensures compliance with laws, regulations, and company policies.

What You'll Do
  • Supervise a small or medium team responsible for complex multi‑state/union payroll activities.
  • Monitor workloads and prioritize team assignments.
  • Assist in training subordinates and conduct performance reviews.
  • Act as a knowledgeable resource and mentor to Payroll staff and other business units.
  • Make risk assessments and decide on policy exceptions as needed.
  • Process, audit, analyze, and review timekeeping, payroll, and benefit setups and deductions.
  • Audit time records, make adjustments, and ensure compliance.
  • Resolve open items and identify enhancements or changes to departmental procedures.
  • Ensure third‑party garnishments comply with federal and state laws.
  • Review per diem taxability and correct payroll setup.
  • Verify employee pay rates against union contracts and labor laws.
  • Resolve escalated employee issues under collective bargaining agreement guidelines.
  • Collaborate with HR on leave of absence and work location transfers.
  • Stay current on payroll regulations and recommend updates.
  • Set up and adjust employees’ tax records as needed.
  • Work with IT to fix issues, identify enhancements, and monitor progress.
  • Participate in testing new or updated payroll application functionalities.
  • Respond to employee questions regarding paychecks or W‑2s.
  • Provide backup to team members when necessary.
  • Maintain accurate control and distribution of payroll‑related reports and payments.
  • Assist with costing to GL transfer processes and month‑end closing activities.
  • Assist auditors with required payroll information.
  • Other duties as assigned within the business unit.
What You'll Need to Be Successful
  • Multi‑state payroll tax knowledge.
  • Computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.).
  • Experience with Fusion Oracle and/or Workday preferred.
  • Union experience within the construction industry preferred.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks under changing priorities.
  • Ability to work under time pressure and adapt to changing requirements with a positive attitude.
  • Professional, confidential handling of sensitive pay data.
  • Effective oral and written communication; de‑escalation skills; customer‑specific resolutions.
  • Research and analytical skills.
  • Self‑motivated, proactive, and an effective team player.
What You Bring to Us
  • Associate degree or higher in finance, human resources, accounting, or related discipline.
  • Minimum seven years of payroll experience, preferably with a union employer.
  • Training or certification in payroll, finance, and payroll tax related topics is a plus.
  • Relevant combination of education, training, and experience.
Travel
  • Up to 15% travel required.
Working Conditions
  • Work involves sitting, standing, walking, typing, carrying, pushing, and bending; primarily indoors with varying conditions.
  • Noise level is low to medium; can be loud on jobsite.

  • Occasional lifting of up to 30 lbs.
