Overview
The City of Coppell Police Department is seeking to add Police Recruits and Police Officers to our team. We are seeking candidates with heart, soul, and a passion for public service.
Opportunity Description- Police Recruit: A police recruit is a temporary status for new employees while they complete the following:
- Satisfactorily attend and complete the Basic Course in Applied Police Science (BCAPS, also known as Basic Police Academy)
- Satisfactorily acquire a T.C.O.L.E Basic Peace Officer Certification
- Satisfactorily complete Field Training and Probationary Period

- May 22-August 2: Accepting applications. During the recruiting period, we will conduct our Application Material Review weekly. Qualified candidates will be invited to schedule a Physical Fitness Test and complete a Personal History Statement (PHS) to be brought to their test. Following testing, candidates will complete a Written Examination. Candidates who pass their Physical Fitness Test and Written Examination will undergo an Internal Background Investigation.
- August 24-28: Candidates invited to move forward in the next step will complete a DISC Assessment and participate in an Oral Panel Interview
- September 7-11: Oral Panel Interviews
- September 14: Candidates are notified of their status in the hiring process
- September 14-October 11: Contingent offers of employment; pre-employment requirements are completed
- October 26: First Day as a City of Coppell Employee
- November 16: First Day of Academy

1): Starting Hourly Rate: $39.27 - Police Officer (PD2, 1-7): Starting Hourly Rate Step 1: $40.85
* The starting salary of certified officers is based on the previous experience level of the applicant as a full-time police officer.
Requirements
- Candidates must be 21 years of age by T.C.O.L.E Graduation, or older
- Valid State of Texas Driver's License, or the ability to obtain one, with a good driving record
- Ability to satisfactorily complete our hiring process:
- Complete the Preliminary Application
- Physical Fitness Test (Concept 2 Rower)
- Written Examination
- Internal Background Investigation
- Online DISC Assessment
- Oral Panel Interview
- Ability to satisfactorily complete all pre-employment requirements post contingent offer:
- Credit, Education, and Employment Verification
- Polygraph, Psychological (L3), and Drug/Medical Evaluation (L2)

- Thirty (30) hours of college education from a regionally accredited university or college with a 2.0 or higher overall GPA

- Ability to satisfactorily complete Field Training and Probationary Period

Lateral Transfer candidates are required to possess the following:
- Be in good standing with current/previous agency
- Certified Peace Officer with at least 3 years of experience in a progressive agency of comparable size to Coppell from any state
- Experience as a reserve officer, constable, military service, military police, and jailer is not accepted.
Other desirable education/experience/knowledge/skillsets:
- Prior patrol duty experience
- TCOLE Advanced Certification
- Fluency in a language other than English
- Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice, or a related field of study
