ENT for Children is seeking an audiology extern to complete a 12-month full-time externship from May 2027-May 2028. ENT for Children is a fast-paced environment and offers experience with a wide variety of patient populations and unique cases. We provide a full range of pediatric services including comprehensive audio logic evaluations, diagnostic ABRs, hearing aid, BAHA and cochlear implant evaluations, hearing aid/BAHA fittings, cochlear implant activations and subsequent MAPpings, and more.

Externs will have the opportunity to be fully supervised by four pediatric audiologists and fully immersed in every patient interaction. Externs will also have the opportunity to collaborate with a skilled team of ENT surgeons and providers. The ideal candidate will have the desire for a career in pediatric audiology, be highly motivated, and be a strong team player.

Externship Information:

Primary Practice Setting: ENT group practice

Number of Audiologists at the site: 0 FTE Masters Degree
4 FTE Au.D.
0 FTE Ph.D.
0 FTE Other Doctorate (ScD)
0 FTE professional support staff (technicians/audiometric assistants)
6 FTE Clerical Support Staff

Number of Audiology Students each year: 0 1st year AuD Clinical Rotations

Financial arrangements: Stipend

Externship Site Expectations

Externship site expects the extern to have mastered these skills before they begin their clinical externship:

  • Completed their university coursework related to pediatrics.
  • Preferred, but not a requirement, at least one or more pediatric practicum placements.
  • Preferred, but not a requirement, experience with ABRs.
  • Externship site expects the extern to learn/demonstrate these skills during their clinical externship:

  • Independently perform and interpret diagnostic audio logic evaluations using BOA, VRA, CPA, and standard testing techniques.
  • Independently perform and interpret immittance measures, OAEs, and A  waveforms.
  • Independently complete pediatric hearing aid evaluations and fittings with conventional and bone conduction hearing aids.
  • Independently perform listening checks and troubleshooting of hearing devices.
  • Identify appropriate pediatric candidates for cochlear implantation.
  • Gain competency in pediatric cochlear implant evaluations, initial stimulations, MAPping, and rehabilitation in children with cochlear implants.
  • Gain competency in validation/verification measures as well as functional testing pertaining to all hearing devices (including questionnaires).
  • Gain competency in patient, family, and caregiver education and counseling.
  • Gain competency in the accompanying written documentation and verbal communication needed to administer care.
  • Gain competency in report writing and billing procedures pertaining to Texas pediatric audiology.
