Job Title: Senior BI Platform Administrator (Power BI, Looker & Quick Sight)
Location: Tampa or Dallas
- Dallas,TX
Shift Schedule: Monday – Friday (9am – 5pm PST)
Type: Contract
Duration: 6 months. Requirements
  • Extensive experience with implementing and managing BI platforms for business intelligence, data applications, and embedded analytics.
  • 10+ years of experience in managing BI platforms including Power BI, Looker, and Amazon Quick Sight.
  • Experience in designing and delivering complex platform architectures.
  • Extensive experience with Python programming, Shell Scripting, and Power Shell Scripting.
  • Identify and implement various automation solutions using scripting.
  • Have worked on various product APIs to automate admin functions.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in setting up security using Active Directory, Azure AD, and Ping Federate.
  • Have worked on configuring OAuth and SAML configurations for SSO implementation.
  • Experience in defining SDLC processes and CI/CD processes using Jenkins.
  • Integrating Looker with a Git repository for code commits.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience with platform governance and resiliency.
  • Power BI Service architecture design and administration including, but not limited to:
    • Azure Administration
    • Power BI Administration
    • Power BI Premium Capacity Administration
    • Extensive knowledge of Power BI Premium Service as a whole
    • Troubleshooting and identifying opportunities for automation to streamline day-to-day platform operations.
  • Experience with Looker setup and administration.
  • Architect and develop data models, ETL packages, and reports utilizing Power BI while applying best practices throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Data modeling experience using the Kimball methodology.
  • Experience with more than one database tool such as:
    • Snowflake
    • Oracle
    • DB2
    • SQL Server
  • Understanding of various external components that BI tools depend on for successful connectivity, including:
    • Network
    • Firewall
    • Proxy
  • Integrating Power BI with different tools including, but not limited to:
    • Splunk
    • Collibra
    • Service Now
  • Understanding of prerequisites required for successful connection setup.
  • Strong ability to quickly propose solutions by recalling the latest best practices learned from MVP & Product Team articles, vendor documentation, whitepapers, and community publications.
  • A passion for understanding and integrating business semantics into technology solutions.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic, client-facing role where delivering solid work products that exceed high expectations is a measure of success.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, influencing, and reasoning skills.
  • Ability to lead complex projects.

Responsibilities
  • Work closely with internal IT, Server, and Security teams to troubleshoot issues, review logs, and resolve production/non-production environment issues.
  • Work independently and provide solutions to users.
  • Manage Power BI Gateways to ensure dashboards and reports refresh automatically.
  • Build CI/CD pipelines to check in and migrate Power BI datasets, dashboards, and reports between work spaces utilizing Power BI REST APIs and Power Platform.
  • Build and support Power BI platform metrics including:
    • User tracking/logging
    • Usage monitoring
    • Anomaly detection in published datasets
    • Enterprise-level reporting using the Power BI Platform
  • Configure Power BI Tenant settings for features such as:
    • Workspace settings
    • Export and sharing settings
    • Publish to Web
    • Developer settings
  • Manage Power BI Premium capacities for capacity planning and performance management.
  • Monitor Premium capacities regularly to identify trends that indicate underlying issues.
  • Train self-service BI users and support the business in promoting self-service BI and the overall data platform through communications, collateral, and training materials.
  • Support BI production environments for a large-scale user base.
  • Provide on-call support for production issues.
  • Provide leadership and vision for best usage and practices regarding the Cognos toolset.
  • Establish standards and guidelines for BI development.
  • Mentor team members and facilitate knowledge transfer.
