Title & Overview

Sr. Director, Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE)

Role Type:
Onsite, with travel as necessary.

Responsibilities

Enterprise & Corporate Strategy Leadership

Translate enterprise HSE strategy into scalable systems, programs, and standards that support enterprise-wide objectives. Act as a strategic partner in advancing enterprise initiatives by aligning safety priorities with broader business goals. Lead the implementation and execution of enterprise HSE strategy across assigned regions, ensuring consistency and measurable outcomes. Provide insights and feedback to influence enterprise strategy based on regional performance, risks, and opportunities.

Regional Leadership & Organizational Development

Influence and support regional HSE teams to strengthen structure, capability, and bench strength in alignment with organizational growth. Partner with regional leaders to support the ongoing development and maturation of safety organizations, including input on hiring, onboarding, and leadership development. Drive alignment through collaboration, ensuring consistency in safety expectations, execution, and performance standards across regions. Partner with enterprise and regional leadership to integrate safety into business planning and execution, promoting shared ownership and accountability.

Safety Strategy & Culture Advancement

Align regional safety strategies with enterprise objectives while tailoring execution to meet unique operational needs. Champion the continued development of a strong, proactive safety culture, with a focus on site-specific safety ownership and accountability. Ensure robust development and execution of site-specific safety plans that reflect both corporate standards and project-level risks. Promote a culture of continuous improvement, learning, and innovation across all levels of the organization.

Maintain strong relationships with clients, subcontractors, regulators, and industry partners.

Strategic Communication & Influence

Provide clear, executive-level reporting on performance, risks, and strategic progress. Influence senior leaders to drive alignment between safety, operations, and business outcomes. Act as a trusted advisor across functions to ensure safety is fully integrated into decision-making.

Success in the First 6-12 Months

Establish a strong, consistent safety operating rhythm across regions, with measurable improvements in leading indicators. Implement and align regional safety strategies with enterprise direction, including clear KPIs and reporting mechanisms. Strengthen and develop regional HSE teams, ensuring the right structure and leadership capability to support growth. Advance a culture of ownership through effective site-specific safety planning and execution. Build strong partnerships with regional and enterprise leaders to drive alignment and deliver on safety outcomes.

Qualifications

What You'll Need to Be Successful:

  • Demonstrated success building high-performing teams and developing leaders within complex organizations.
  • Highly competent strategic leader with the ability to translate vision into action across multiple regions.
  • Proven ability to align safety strategy with business objectives and drive enterprise-wide impact.
  • Exceptional executive presence, communication, and influencing skills.
  • Strong experience integrating safety into large-scale operations and project delivery environments.
  • Advanced analytical capability, with expertise in KPI development and data-driven decision making.
  • Ability to drive cross-functional alignment and influence at all levels of the organization.
  • Strong organizational, stakeholder management, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and safety management systems.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 20+ years of progressive HSE leadership across multisite operations.
  • CSP required (or ability to obtain within 6 months).
  • CIH, MBA, PE, or JD a plus.
  • Master’s degree preferred or equivalent industry experience.
  • Clear ability and desire to grow into VP-level leadership.
Travel & Working Conditions

Travel:
Up to 50% as needed.
