Position Summary:

The Director, Field Environmental Health & Safety serves as the senior EHS leader for an assigned QXO business unit, responsible for developing and executing the business unit's EHS strategy while driving consistent performance across branch, transportation, and operational environments.

This role leads a team of Regional EHS Managers and partners closely with business leadership to embed EHS into operational decision-making, risk management, and business planning. The Director serves as the primary liaison between the business unit and the EHS Center of Excellence (COE), ensuring enterprise standards, systems, and initiatives are effectively deployed while providing field-driven feedback to continuously improve EHS programs.

The successful candidate combines strategic leadership with operational expertise and is passionate about building a best-in-class EHS culture focused on learning, resilience, risk reduction, and operational excellence.

This role can be based out of:
Atlanta, GA, Coppell, TX and/or Herndon, VA.

What you’ll do:

Business Unit EHS Strategy & Leadership
  • Develop, own, and execute the EHS strategy for an assigned business unit, aligned with QXO's enterprise EHS vision and objectives.
  • Establish business-unit EHS priorities, performance goals, and strategic roadmaps that drive continuous improvement.
  • Partner with business unit leadership to integrate EHS into operational planning, capital investments, acquisitions, and growth initiatives.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to senior operational leaders on EHS risks, opportunities, and performance.
  • Champion a culture where safety is recognized as a core business value and operational excellence enabler.
Team Leadership & Capability Development
  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of Regional EHS Managers responsible for field execution across multiple regions.
  • Build organizational capability through talent development, succession planning, coaching, and leadership development.
  • Ensure consistent execution of EHS programs, standards, and expectations across all operating locations.
  • Foster collaboration and knowledge sharing across regions to accelerate learning and performance improvement.
  • Drive proactive identification and mitigation of high-consequence risks with a primary focus on preventing Potential Serious Injuries and Fatalities (pSIFs) and Significant Incidents and Fatalities (SIFs).
  • Ensure effective implementation of risk management processes, assessments, and corrective action programs across the business unit.
  • Partner with operations leaders to improve work design, fleet safety, material handling, equipment safety, contractor management, and operational controls.
  • Lead business-unit reviews of significant incidents, emerging risks, and systemic performance challenges.
Partnership with the EHS Center of Excellence
  • Partner closely with the EHS Center of Excellence to deploy enterprise EHS standards, management systems, technology, training, and performance frameworks.
  • Provide field perspective and operational feedback to support continuous improvement of enterprise EHS programs.
