Job Summary
As a Senior Mechanic Technician, you will work under limited supervision and be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a variety of vehicles and mechanical equipment. You will utilize your technical expertise and problem‑solving skills to ensure the safe and efficient operation of machinery, vehicles, and systems. This role requires a strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and a commitment to quality workmanship.
You must have all required tools to fulfill the responsibilities of the job.
- Maintain a clean, safe work area in compliance with Corporate/OSHA Standards and perform all work in accordance with established safety procedures, including Hazardous Energy Control Procedures (HECP) and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Communicate directions and specifications verbally and in writing to team members.
- Demonstrate high quality work, performed with limited repeat repairs and within Standard Repair Times (SRTs).
- Aid and train other technicians in repairs and company procedures and policies.
- Use time effectively, preventing irrelevant issues or distractions from interfering with work completion.
- Document work and parts usage: maintain accurate records of repairs, replacements, and maintenance tasks; record parts usage, labor hours, and diagnostic findings using fleet maintenance software.
- Test and adjust vehicle systems and components to ensure proper functionality and alignment; calibrate sensors and fine‑tune as necessary.
- Diagnose mechanical issues: perform complex diagnostic tests to identify mechanical problems in vehicles, engines, and equipment; use specialized tools to troubleshoot and determine effective repair solutions.
- Repair, replace, or rebuild components on engines, transmissions, brakes, steering systems, electrical systems, and other mechanical parts following manufacturer specifications and safety guidelines.
- Maintain tools, equipment, and shop facilities in good working condition; keep work areas clean, organized, and free of hazards.
- Collaborate with and instruct other technicians to troubleshoot complex issues and share knowledge and expertise.
- Estimate time and material costs on repairs; requisition new parts and communicate immediately if additional work is needed or if repairs cannot be completed within SRTs.
- Inspect the quality of outside/supplier repairs or rebuilds; assess structural damage and assign needed repairs using the most appropriate methods.
- Perform service calls and appropriate emergency breakdown repairs.
- Adjust workload based on priority situations and operational needs.
- Provide maintenance supervisory duties in the absence of supervision when required.
- Demonstrate the ability to adapt skills to changing technology and equipment.
Required Qualifications
- At least 3 years of experience as a mechanic technician working on heavy equipment in a diesel, automotive, construction, or industrial setting.
- At least 3 years of experience inspecting, troubleshooting, and repairing trucks and stationary equipment.
- Minimum age 18 years and legally eligible to work in the country where the position is located.
- Valid driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED (accredited).
- Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with a clean driving record. (CDL is required only if applicable; applicant must be at least 21 years of age.)
- Lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, feeling.
- Standing, walking, handling, grasping, talking, hearing, repetitive motions, eye/hand/foot coordination.
- Work may occur inside a garage, shop, or gas plant as well as outside in inclement weather, high heat, and humidity.
