PRIMARY

PURPOSE:

This position is responsible for supporting students in the DAEP Program. The Aide collaborates with campus administrators, teachers, and staff to proactively intervene in the behavioral needs of students. Provide targeted intervention support to students while they work through the DAEP Program. Assist teacher in preparation and management of classroom activities and administrative requirements. Work under supervision of certified teacher.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certification:

Valid Texas Education Aide certificate

48 college hours preferred

Special Knowledge/

Skills:

Ability to work well with children.

Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.

Ability to communicate effectively.

Crisis Prevention Intervention Training Preferred.

Minimum Experience:

Two years previous successful experience working with children.

Experience in a public education environmental preferred

MAJOR

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

Collaborates with campus administrators, teachers, and staff to proactively intervene in the behavioral needs of students.

Provides targeted interventions support to students with severe and chronic problems that are leading to disciplinary issues or referrals.

Assists students to identify behavior and alternative reactions to the behaviors.

Provides a tiered level of support for academic intervention.

Serves as a mentor on campus.

Assists students in completing work to fill educational gaps.

Assists in coordinating the re-entry of students returning from discipline and expulsion.

Administers make up work, tests and examinations for the teacher.

Discusses assigned teaching area with classroom teacher to coordinate instructional efforts.

Prepares and develops teaching aids such as charts and graphs.

Presents subject matter to students using a variety of methods and techniques.

Operates and cares for equipment and instructional material.

Provides escort to students, as necessary.

Informs the regular subject matter teacher of any problems.

Performs other such duties as may be assigned by teacher or principal.

Standard medical clinic equipment including automated external defibrillator (AED); special needs adaptive equipment; standard office equipment including computer and peripherals

Posture:
Frequent standing, sitting, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing pulling, and twisting

Motion:
Frequent walking, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension

Lifting:
Frequent light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); may require regular heavy lifting (45 pounds or more) and position of students with physical disabilities; controlling behavior through physical restraint, assisting non ambulatory students

Environment:
Exposure to biological hazards, bacteria, and communicable diseases

Mental Demands:
Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress.
