Summary Of Responsibilities The primary function of the Community Supervision Officer is to provide responsible supervision to assigned clients in order to ensure compliance with court‑ordered conditions thereby providing a service to the Courts, the community and the clients on probation.
Essential Responsibilities And Functions- Supervise clients to monitor compliance with the orders of the Courts
- Maintain accurate chronological records on all client activity
- Prepare monthly statistical reports
- Assist the Courts in revocation hearings as necessary
- Schedule assessments and assists with referrals, perform reassessments
- Refer clients to appropriate community resource agencies in an effort to effectuate their rehabilitation
- Ensure all fees are paid on a timely basis
- Notify the Court immediately, through proper channels, of any violations of probation
- Implement Evidence‑Based Practices such as Motivational Interviewing in caseload management
- Ensure compliance with all Community Justice Assistance Division Standards
- Observe the collection of urine samples for drug screening on clients on probation to assure that no foreign substance is introduced into the sample as needed
- Contribute to and help create a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a cooperative and amicable manner with supervisors, coworkers, subordinates and members of the public
Skills And Abilities
- Possess the State mandated qualifications for a Community Supervision Officer
- Bachelor's Degree conferred by an institution of higher education accredited by an accrediting organization recognized by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board
- Degree must be in criminal justice, criminology, corrections, counseling, human services development, law, law enforcement, social work, psychology, or sociology.
- If the bachelor's degree is not in one of these fields, applicants must have:
- A minimum of one year of graduate study in one of these fields;
- A minimum of one year of experience in fulltime casework, counseling, or community or group work that has been approved by the Criminal Justice Assistance Division director.
- A copy of academic transcript attached to application
- Two (2) certified original copies will be required at time of hire
- Good oral and written communication skills
- Effective organizational and time management skills
- Valid Driver's License (Texas by hire date)
- Good driving record and insurable under the department's automobile insurance program
- Failing the State mandated qualification test may result in termination of employment
A Community Supervision Officer in Texas cannot be employed as a peace officer or work as a reserve or volunteer peace officer; and cannot be currently on community supervision, parole, or serving a sentence for a criminal offense.
