Overview
Operates various pieces of light equipment for the purpose of drainage repair and maintenance, maintains equipment and performs other duties as assigned.
Supervision Received and ExercisedReceives direct supervision from Superintendent Street/Drainage.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Operation of light equipment and motorized vehicles in the maintenance and repair of City Drainage Systems.
- Haul materials and will assist in ditch maintenance, tree and brush removal as needed.
- Performs routine maintenance on equipment and vehicles. Services equipment and makes minor field repairs and adjustments.
- Equipment includes, but it is not limited to: operating pneumatic rollers, wheel loaders, street sweepers, sand spreaders, water trucks, dump trucks and herbicide sprayer. Be familiar with back hoe and loader.
- Performs labor duties when not operating construction equipment.
- The employee must have the ability to work well with others and have a good/pleasant attitude.
- Performs other essential duties as required to achieve successful operations of the department.
- Maintains equipment by performing preventative maintenance and repair of equipment and vehicles.
- Must be able to follow directions.
- Regular and timely attendance is an essential job function.
- Serves as a member of various employee committees as assigned.
- Other Duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Graduation from high school or equivalent;
- One (1) year of light equipment operation and maintenance; or,
- Any equivalent combination of education and experience;
- Must possess a valid Texas driver's License by date of hire with insurable record.
- CDL Class B certification required within nine (9) months of date of employment.
Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge in the safe and efficient operation of equipment and vehicles;
- Knowledge of routine vehicle operation and equipment preventive maintenance;
- Skilled in the operation of heavy motorized maintenance/construction equipment;
- Ability to follow oral, written instructions and to relate well with the public and coworkers;
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists;
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form;
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals;
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence;
- Ability to handle several duties at once and prioritize jobs.

Tools and Equipment UsedDrainage system repair, haul materials and equipment, such as tractors, street sweeper, backhoe, dump trucks, pneumatic & track loader, ditch witch walk behind, skid steer; landscaping equipment; hand and power tools.

The employee usually works near moving mechanical parts, outside weather conditions, vibrations and other hazards associated with an outside work environment.
Additionally the employee occasionally works in wet or humid conditions, in high and precarious places, with fumes or airborne particles, toxic and caustic chemicals, and there is the risk of electrical shock.
The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
