PRIMARY PURPOSEAssist the bus driver in transporting and ensuring the safety of the students with disabilities to and/or from the school campus as well as monitoring student behavior and provide Personal Care Services, Mobility, Cueing/Prompting, Escorting, Positioning, Supervising/Monitoring, and or Transferring, as included in the student’s Individualized Education Program (IEP). Assisting with the use of specialized and adaptive equipment as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS Education/Certification- High School Diploma or GED (minimum 19 years of age)
- Possess positive attitude toward people and professional situations and can resolve student problems.
- Exceptional communications, public relations, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work with student who have special needs or a disability.
- Ability to manage student behavior.
- Ability to operate safety and adaptive equipment, including wheelchairs (training provided).
- Must be able to communicate effectively in speaking, reading, and writing in English. Bilingual in English/Spanish is a bonus.
Specialized and adaptive equipment used by students.
PostureFrequent standing and sitting; kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting, reaching, and any other movements necessary/needed to assist students with disabilities.
MotionFrequent walking and reaching.
LiftingFrequent heavy lifting (45 pounds or over) and positioning of students with physical disabilities, controlling behavior through physical restraint, assisting non-ambulatory students, and lifting and moving adaptive equipment.
EnvironmentWork inside and outside (exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather); exposure to noise and vehicle fumes; exposure to biological hazards (bacteria, communicable diseases); work around vehicles and machinery with moving parts; may work irregular or prolonged hours.
Mental DemandsWork with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress.
