Position: Manager, Contract Risk

Band 11 (Minimum- $92,139 , Control Point- $122,852, Maximum- $135,137). Placement within a salary band is typically up to Control Point based on skills, experience and internal equity. place over Control Point in limited circumstances.

Overview

Douglas College is seeking a seasoned, strategic, and detail-oriented professional with expertise in contract reviews, negotiations, risk management and commercial insurance to serve as Manager, Contract Risk. In this pivotal role, you will lead the review, negotiation, and administration of all non-employment contracts—including service agreements, MOUs, student placement agreements, software licenses, and more—ensuring terms are fair, compliant, and aligned with the College’s interests.

You will design and implement contract risk management programs, policies, and training, providing guidance to stakeholders across the institution. This position offers the opportunity to safeguard the College’s contractual obligations, minimize risk, and support employees by ensuring every agreement is strategically negotiated and thoroughly reviewed.

Qualifications

To be successful in this role you will need:

  • Established professional credibility as evidenced by a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited post‑secondary institution in a related area of study.
  • A minimum of five years’ progressively senior commercial contract management and risk management experience in an environment of similar scope and complexity.
  • Related experience that may include delivering insurance or risk financing solutions.
  • Progressive supervisory experience, preferably in a unionized, public sector environment.
  • Demonstrated training experience and current knowledge of issues, regulations and best practices in the areas of contract administration and enterprise risk management.
  • Canadian Risk Management (CRM) designation, Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) designation, or Canadian Accredited Insurance Broker (CAIB) preferred.
  • Or the equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of the theories, principles and practices of:
    • Enterprise Risk Management

    • Risk Assessment, Risk Management, Risk Transfer
    • Freedom of Information & Protection of Privacy (FOIPPA)

  • Demonstrated organizational, analytical and leadership skills together with an ability to ensure effective decision-making within a collegial environment.
  • Demonstrated written, verbal and interpersonal communications skills together with proven experience in resolving conflict.
  • Ability to effectively work under pressure, using excellent organizational and time management skills, and attention to detail to produce a quality work product within tight time constraints.
