Heavy Duty Mechanic

Responsibilities
  • Diagnose, repair, and maintain a wide range of heavy equipment including excavators, crawler tractors, wheel loaders, articulated trucks, and other construction equipment.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and troubleshooting to minimize equipment downtime.
  • Work with preferred equipment brands such as CAT, Komatsu, John Deere, and Volvo.
  • Provide support and mentorship to apprentices, ensuring a safe and productive work environment.
  • Operate and maintain a contractor-supplied service truck with required equipment and certifications.
  • Maintain accurate records of service, repairs, and inspections.
  • Follow Hall safety policies and WorkSafeBC regulations while performing all work.
  • Ensure work is completed efficiently, safely, and to the highest quality standards.
Qualifications
  • Journeyman Red Seal Heavy Duty Mechanic certification.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience servicing and repairing heavy construction equipment.
  • Familiarity with major construction equipment brands (CAT, Komatsu, John Deere, Volvo).
  • Valid driver’s license.
Technical Skills
  • Proven ability to diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems on heavy equipment.
  • Proficiency in welding and equipment boosting (12

    VDC / 24

    VDC).
  • Skilled in using diagnostic tools and onboard systems.
  • Capable of performing crane-supported lifts with a hydraulic service truck crane.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to work independently in the field or shop environment.
Interpersonal Skills
  • Effective communicator who can collaborate with apprentices, supervisors, and other team members.
  • Safety-focused and dependable, with strong attention to detail.
  • Adaptable and able to respond quickly to equipment challenges.
  • Leadership mindset, comfortable providing guidance and mentorship to apprentices.
