Job Description & How to Apply Below

Welder positions vary in tasks and responsibilities from performing welding to repairing parts and equipment. Welders primarily do construction work, maintenance or a combination of both. They perform a wide variety of journeyman-level duties, such as fabricating metal parts and replacing worn parts, selecting material, tacking welds, heating, cutting and welding a variety of metals and maintenance and repair of equipment in accordance with building codes, blueprints, standards and practices.

They recommend major repairs, as well as design and implement preventative maintenance programs. As part of their role, welders are accountable for providing input regarding renewal and/or preventative maintenance, and replacing equipment and systems. Welders ensure adequate material and parts are on hand. Welders will also assign work and train non-journeyman workers assigned to assist with projects.

Welders work in a number of different facilities including hospitals, medical centers and specialty institutions. They often work in close association with other trades people such as machinists, instrument mechanics, welders and electricians. Welders may work full-time or part-time hours. Shift schedules may include a combination of day, evening and weekend shifts. Welding jobs involve frequent physical demands including extensive standing, walking, bending and lifting of heavy equipment and supplies.

Welders may be required to lift and move items that weigh over 20 kilograms.
