The Screed Operator is responsible for operating the screed at the rear of the paving machine and for accurately setting the depth and width of asphalt during placement. This role is critical to the quality, smoothness, and rideability of the finished surface.
Responsibilities- Responsible for setting asphalt depth and width to exact specifications, ensuring a consistent and high-quality finished surface as part of the road-building process
- Set and monitor screed depth and width to ensure asphalt is laid in accordance with project specifications
- Perform handwork, including shoveling asphalt into holes or areas inaccessible to the paving machine, as required
- Comply with all company safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to health, safety, and environmental standards and help promote a culture of safety in all work environments
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as a paving screed operator.
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license
- Demonstrated commitment to producing high‑quality work
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and communicate clearly with crew members
- Willingness to work in a physically demanding environment, including lifting heavy objects and working in varying weather conditions
- Strong attention to detail and ability to perform effectively under pressure.
- Ability to meet all safety requirements and comply with applicable safety policies
- Availability to work overtime, nights, weekends, and early starts, as required
- Willingness to work flexible hours and adhere to all safety protocols, including the proper use of company‑approved personal protective equipment (PPE), such as respirators
