The Director of Event and Student Engagement oversees all aspects of student, alumni, faculty & staff engagement planning, including meetings, conferences, workshops, seminars, lectures, and other special events for the assigned department(s). The Director ensures that all amenities and accommodations at the event are adequate and creates a sense of belonging. The Director works with the Communications Director, Senior Business Officer, and Advancement Officer to develop engagement activities for prospective, current, and alumni students.
CoreJob Functions
- Work with the SONHS Leadership Team to develop strategies for student engagement activities for Nursing, Health Studies, and Public Health disciplines.
- Represent the SONHS in functions and provide recommendations to upper management regarding vendor, venue, and food services, including research activities on grants and projects.
- Ensure that events proceed as scheduled and do not conflict with other activities.
- Act as liaison to vendors and external entities.
- Supervise registration and check‑in at events.
- Assist with the design of collateral marketing materials and mailing for events; maintain email distribution lists for electronic newsletters, manage the email account, and provide on‑site troubleshooting at events.
- Collect content and assist the Communications Director, Senior Business Officer, and Advancement Officer in designing and developing events, developing invitations, and proofreading large amounts of data for accuracy, flow, and grammar.
- Maintain and upload data into various programs used for event purposes, which require data manipulation (Cvent, Marching Order, Qualtrics, Ticket Master, Regalia Manager, etc.).
- Maintain the school website by updating content each semester with relevant information that includes commencement dates and student deadlines.
- Manage and monitor departmental social media initiatives via Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.
- Be responsible for end‑of‑the‑year ceremonies, including working with Associate Deans to secure student speakers for graduation ceremonies and supporting students with their presentations.
- Work with the Daisy Foundation on the submission of student and faculty awards.
- Be responsible for organizing the “white coat” ceremonies, including developing invitations, selecting venue, and following up with any questions students and parents may have regarding the event.
- Organize semester student events to engage students in school activities and direct all homecoming activities.
- Guarantee that activities and costs remain within set budgetary constraints, process purchase orders, expense reimbursements, and ensure vendors are paid in a timely manner.
- Work with faculty advisors to coordinate the four student associations of the school.
- Plan events during Hispanic Heritage and Black History months.
- Adhere to University and unit‑level policies and procedures and safeguard University assets.
Education:
Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field
Certification and Licensing:

Experience:
Minimum 4 years of relevant experience
- Knowledge of business and management principles.
- Ability to direct, manage, implement, and evaluate department operations.
- Ability to establish department goals and objectives that support the strategic plan.
- Ability to effectively plan, delegate and/or supervise the work of others.
- Ability to lead, motivate, develop, and train others.
