The Opportunity

Black & Veatch is looking for a Water Resources Engineer focused on stormwater planning and design, flood control, condition assessment, and water supply planning. This hybrid role can be based out of one of our Florida office locations.

Key Responsibilities

Lead the execution of water resources projects, including planning, modeling, and design
Design stormwater improvements (open channels, sewer systems, detention/retention facilities)
Design green infrastructure and sustainable watershed measures (structural BMPs)
Design flood mitigation improvements (dams, levees, reservoirs, pump stations)
Plan erosion and sediment control, including development of SWPPP
Handle regulatory compliance and permitting for USACE, FEMA, and other environmental permits
Provide business development leadership and client relationship building
Act as Project Manager for the listed services
Interface with partners to leverage new technologies
Provide technical mentorship and supervise early-career professionals
Support broader Planning business development (water supply, master plans, asset management, etc.)

Preferred Qualifications

11+ years of water resources planning and design experience
Experience developing and executing water resource planning and design projects
Proficiency with HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, EPA/XP-SWMM, Info Works, EFDC, CFD, ArcGIS, Cityworks/Lucity, or other Asset Management/CMMS systems
Experience with regulatory requirements and procedures
Business development and client‑facing experience

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited program
5 years related work experience
Active engineering registration or licensure supporting engineer of record requirements (as applicable)
Ability to complete pre‑employment onboarding (background check, drug screen, etc.)
