An Environmental Specialist II with the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, Division of Plant Industry, protects agricultural resources by conducting site inspections to detect, delimit, and treat invasive pests and plant diseases. The role involves field surveys across agricultural, port, and residential areas; diagnostic sampling; pesticide application; equipment maintenance; and regulatory compliance to eradicate new pests from the state.
KeyQualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent plus 1 year environmental protection/health/agriculture/engineering experience, OR 6 months as an Environmental Specialist I with the State of Florida, OR bachelor's
- Valid Class E driver license
- Respirator certification required; must obtain fruit fly certification within 6 months of appointment
- Ability to conduct independent field inspections and diagnostic sampling
- Ability to operate spray equipment, tractors, and related machinery
- Willingness to travel frequently, including overnight and emergency assignments
