Summary
The Dental Lead will coordinate and oversee activities of the dental clinic and dental team members to ensure compassionate, effective, and efficient delivery of high-quality dental care for patients. They will be responsible for leading the development of an integrated care team approach. They will work directly with the Dental Manager/Director in development of dental staff members including education, competencies, evaluation, performance correction, patient safety, and customer service-related issues.
The Dental Lead will assist staff in reaching their full potential at each stage of their professional development. The focus will be on developing and enhancing clinical knowledge, technical skills, clinical decision-making skills, and inter-personal skills that staff use to provide quality services. The Dental Lead is responsible to provide direction and supervision to dental assistants in a clinical care setting.
To accomplish this job successfully, the Dental Lead must possess strong leadership skills and function as a servant leader. Responsible to demonstrate actions aligned with the mission of Grace Health and to hold staff accountable for the same. Must be able to take charge when necessary to achieve results.
- Provide leadership in clinical practice and act as a resource and role model for clinic.
- Provide supervision and support to clinical staff in a professional manner.
- Counsel and train newly hired dental staff.
- Provide continuation training/education for dental staff.
- Consults with and supports clinical staff in the efforts to serve patients.
- Develop and maintain good collaborative working relationships and channels of communication with members of the care staff teams, including all ancillary departments.
- Monitor, evaluate, and correct staff performance relating to patient care/clinical practice and assist in raising the standards of practice.
- Assist in coordinating daily staffing to ensure that all shifts are covered.
- Assist in oversight of dental staff.
- Assist in hiring process of new dental staff.
- Assist the Dental Manager with annual performance evaluations.
- Respond to all questions and issues that arise from staff each day, escalating to Dental Manager if needed.
- Assist in overseeing the Infection Control program.
- Attend management and other meetings as required by Grace Health.
- Attend management development or training events organized or specified by Grace Health.
- Monitor daily performance of clinical members to ensure duties are completed accurately, efficiently, and timely.
- Keep up to date with current developments in clinical practice and education.
- Ensure adherence to clinical policies and patient care guidelines of Grace Health.
- Perform duties of Dental Assistant as needed and to support clinical operations/needs.
- Ensure safety measures are observed throughout patient care areas.
- Manage difficult situations with patients and staff using Christian principles.
- Identifies and rewards positive performance regularly.
- Demonstrate excellent customer service skills and holds all staff accountable for the same.
- Act as a positive change agent for performance improvement activities.
- Act as a role model to all staff.
- Will monitor and control staff overtime.
- Work in conjunction with Patient Access Representatives and Scheduling Manager to coordinate patient care delivery.
- Complete chart preps prior to scheduled treatment for all patients.
- Leads morning dental huddles.
- Ensure duties related to the following are completed accurately and timely:
- Lab services
- Laundry service
- Medical waste handling
