Under the leadership of the departmental Nursing Director, the Registered Nurse (RN) I is responsible for utilizing the nursing process in assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care. The RN I is responsible for providing culturally sensitive care that is appropriate for the patient’s developmental age. The RN I formulates an appropriate nursing plan of care and effectively interacts with patients, family members, and other health team members.

The RN I maintains the standards of professional nursing. The RN I’s duties are based on scientific principles and established standards of nursing practice.

Basic Qualifications
  • Education: Associate’s degree in Nursing from an accredited school of nursing.
  • Experience: Up to one year of work‑related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Licensure, Registrations &

    Certifications:

    Current state license as a Registered Nurse and listed in good standing with the state’s Department of Professional Credentialing; current BLS, ACLS and PALS certification (must be obtained within three months of hire if not current).
Responsibilities
  • Conduct assessment of patient’s condition and develop plan of care.
  • Collaborate with patient care team to evaluate and monitor plan of care, modifying as appropriate.
  • Effectively and consistently perform basic nursing skills and treatments as prescribed.
  • Use professional judgment and communicate changes to the health care team.
  • Prepare or direct preparation of necessary equipment and assist physician during examination and treatment.
  • Demonstrate prioritization and decisiveness to complete patient assignments within assigned shift.
  • Analyze and interpret diagnostic studies, abnormal labs, EKGs, X‑rays, vital signs, etc., and communicate changes to the team.
  • Render professional nursing care in the critical care setting, including administration of emergency medications and intravenous therapy; titrate vasopressors and inotropes.
  • Utilize and monitor invasive lines such as CVP and arterial line; manage patients requiring mechanical ventilation, BIPAP, CPAP.
  • Participate in patient and family education and rehabilitation, explaining treatments and nursing care plans.
  • Assume on‑call responsibility as assigned according to call policy.
  • Attend minimum 12 credit hours of continuing education each year.
  • Meet with patients and families to help them overcome emotional problems associated with health care conditions.
  • Make regular rounds to assigned patients, observe and evaluate symptoms and reactions, and take corrective action as needed.
  • Maintain patient records and report pertinent information regarding conditions, medications, and treatments.
  • Participate in performance improvement studies and integrate standards into patient care.
  • Participate in discharge planning, preparing patients and families for release, acting as liaison between team members.
  • Serve as clinical leader, implementing nursing concepts, conducting conferences, assisting in teaching student nurses and ancillary personnel.
  • Stay current on innovations, developments, new procedures, and techniques in nursing care.
  • Perform safety, infection control, and performance improvement duties as part of CRHS’s efforts.
  • Present a professional image to coworkers, clinicians, patients, families, and visitors.
  • Attend professional development programs and in‑service training, meeting minimum requirement for continuing professional education.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
