Position

Middle School Classroom Teacher – Kossuth Middle School (Job )

Position Purpose

Under the general supervision of the School Principal, facilitate student success and growth in academic and interpersonal skills through implementing district‑approved curriculum, documenting teaching and student progress, addressing specific educational needs, and creating a safe and optimal learning environment.

Essential Performance Responsibilities
  • Develop and administer middle school curriculum consistent with district goals and objectives.
  • Promote a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small‑group instruction and student learning.
  • Develop lesson plans and instructional materials and translate lesson plans into learning experiences to best utilize instructional time.
  • Conduct ongoing assessment of student learning, modify instructional methods to fit individual students' needs, including students with special needs, and conduct individual or small‑group instruction as needed.
  • Instruct students in responsible citizenship and other subject matters specified in applicable laws and administrative regulations of Thomaston Public Schools.
  • Continue to acquire professional knowledge and stay current in educational developments by attending seminars, workshops, or professional meetings, or by conducting research.
  • Organize and maintain a system for accurate and complete record‑keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement, and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
  • Encourage parental involvement in students' education and ensure effective communication with students and parents.
  • Ensure that student conduct conforms with the school's standards and district policies, establishing and maintaining standards of pupil behavior needed for a functional learning atmosphere.
  • Coordinate with other middle school professional staff members, especially within grade level and specific subjects, to evaluate and assess curriculum and participate in faculty meetings and committees.
  • Select and requisition appropriate books, instructional aids, supplies, and equipment, and maintain inventory records.
  • Supervise students in activities that occur outside the classroom during the school day, including activities involving school transportation.
  • Administer standardized tests in accordance with district testing programs.
Additional Duties

Perform other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators designated by the Superintendent.

Equipment

Use standard office equipment such as personal computers, printer, copier, fax machine, and telephone.

Travel Requirements

Travel to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, including differentiated instruction based on student learning styles.
  • Knowledge of middle school curriculum and concepts across all subject matters taught.
  • Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis, and the formulation of action plans.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
  • Ability to use computer network systems and software applications as needed.
  • Ability to organize and coordinate work.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
  • Ability to engage in self‑evaluation regarding performance and professional growth.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others involved in the course of work.
Physical and Mental Demands

Works in standard office and school building environments.

Qualifications Profile
  • State of Mississippi Teaching Certification – 154 Endorsement
Education
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in an education discipline applicable to the teaching assignment.
  • Master's degree preferred.
Experience

Successful prior teaching experience for the appropriate grade level preferred.
