Position: Environmental Associate Project Manager (Relocation Required)

Introduction

This position is an eight-month training program. After the training program, participants must be willing to relocate anywhere in the lower 48, as there is no way to forecast where a Project Manager role will open.

About The Environmental Associate Project Manager

The Associate Project Manager is an on-the-job training position that develops Project Managers for WM's Sustainability Services team. The duties and responsibilities, under the direction and supervision of WM leaders, are related to onsite activities at client locations. The Associate PM, through assigned work activities, a training curriculum, and hands‑on projects, will develop a working knowledge of all aspects of the day‑to‑day onsite sustainability operations including, but not limited to, the storage, transportation and disposal of hazardous/non‑hazardous wastes and other related services following federal, state and local regulations.

The Associate PM learns to plan and manage the work of onsite personnel, serves as liaison between client and vendors in relation to service issues and contract management, and maintains pre‑established standards for safety and environmental issues.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Successfully complete the Associate Project Manager curriculum.
  • Attend and participate in all mandatory group training sessions.
  • Develop knowledge of day‑to‑day management of onsite activities at client locations.
  • Learn how to effectively manage site team members.
  • Coordinate logistics for transportation of hazardous and non‑hazardous waste from client sites, including profiling, scheduling, manifesting, and physically loading bulk and drum loads.
  • Consult with client(s) to identify, design and implement cost‑saving opportunities and proposals.
  • Ensure compliance with client and government regulations by performing necessary inspections and reporting.
  • Administer client and vendor financial obligations, including invoicing, reporting and contract management.
  • Manage profit and loss (budgeting).
  • Promote a culture of safety among site team members as part of the WM Safety Program.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree (accredited) in Environmental Sciences, Accounting, Business or related field, or in lieu of degree,
    • High School Diploma (accredited) and 4 years of relevant work experience.
  • Pre‑assignment and/or pre‑hire customer‑specific drug and/or alcohol testing may be required by certain customer‑contract requirements.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Such testing may include urinalysis, oral swab, drug hair follicle testing and/or alcohol testing.

Physical Requirements

Combination:
This job operates in a mix between an office environment and plant/field environment and routinely requires the use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, copy machines, etc.

  • Requires motor coordination with finger dexterity (e.g., keyboarding, machine operation).
  • Requires the exertion of physical effort in handling objects greater than 50 pounds.
  • Exposes to physical occupational risks (e.g., cuts, burns, exposure to toxic chemicals).
  • Exposes to environmental conditions such as dirt, odors, noise, weather extremes or similar elements.
  • Normal setting for this job varies depending on the client.
