Position

Summary

The Assistant Meat Manager supports the Meat Manager in overseeing all aspects of the Meat Department. This position helps ensure exceptional customer service, food safety compliance, product quality, inventory control, merchandising standards, and department profitability. The Assistant Meat Manager assists with leading department associates while maintaining a clean, organized, and customer-focused operation.

Key Responsibilities Department Operations
  • Assist in managing daily Meat Department operations.
  • Ensure meat and seafood products are properly stocked, rotated, and merchandised.
  • Maintain attractive displays that meet company standards for freshness and presentation.
  • Monitor inventory levels and assist with ordering to support sales and minimize shrink.
  • Help ensure department production schedules are completed accurately and efficiently.
Customer Service
  • Deliver exceptional customer service and foster a customer-first culture.
  • Assist customers with product selection, preparation recommendations, and special orders.
  • Resolve customer concerns in a professional and timely manner.
  • Promote department sales through product knowledge and customer engagement.
  • Ensure service counters operate efficiently and meet customer expectations.
Leadership & Team Development
  • Assist with training, coaching, and developing Meat Department associates.
  • Help schedule and assign daily work responsibilities.
  • Promote teamwork, accountability, and productivity.
  • Support performance management and adherence to company policies.
  • Assume department leadership responsibilities in the absence of the Meat Manager.
Food Safety & Compliance
  • Ensure compliance with all food safety, sanitation, health, and regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor product handling, storage temperatures, labeling, and dating procedures.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas.
  • Enforce safe work practices and proper equipment operation.
  • Support department and company audit readiness.
Inventory & Financial Performance
  • Assist in achieving sales, gross margin, shrink, and labor goals.
  • Monitor inventory levels and identify opportunities to improve product availability.
  • Help reduce shrink through proper ordering, rotation, production planning, and quality control.
  • Assist with monitoring department performance metrics and implementing corrective actions.
  • Support company initiatives designed to improve operational efficiency and profitability.
Qualifications
  • Previous meat, grocery, retail, or supervisory experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of meat merchandising, product handling, and food safety practices preferred.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to lead, motivate, and develop associates.
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities.
  • Basic math, inventory management, and computer skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Physical Requirements
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, and lifting.
  • Ability to lift and move products consistent with department requirements.
  • Ability to work in refrigerated environments and varying store conditions.
  • Flexible availability, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
