Your Role as a Substitute Teacher

Our Substitute Teachers provide dependable classroom coverage and support throughout the school based on daily staffing and enrollment needs. You will work alongside our teaching teams to maintain a safe, nurturing, engaging, and developmentally appropriate environment for every child.

Because substitutes may support different classrooms, flexibility and the ability to quickly become part of a classroom's established routine are important to this role.

Key Responsibilities Classroom Support & Supervision
  • Provide classroom coverage and support as assigned by school leadership
  • Maintain active supervision and accountability of children at all times
  • Follow established classroom schedules, routines, lesson plans, and transitions
  • Engage children in age-appropriate learning experiences, play, and activities
  • Support children's social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development
  • Assist with meals, diapering, toileting, rest periods, transitions, and other daily routines as appropriate
  • Maintain a safe, clean, organized, and welcoming classroom environment
  • Follow all health, sanitation, infection control, safety, and licensing requirements
  • Support positive guidance and age-appropriate classroom management practices
  • Supervise children appropriately during indoor and outdoor activities
Communication & Family Engagement
  • Build warm and positive relationships with children, families, and coworkers
  • Greet families professionally and provide excellent customer service
  • Communicate important classroom information to the appropriate teacher or member of leadership
  • Complete required classroom documentation and daily information as assigned
  • Follow school procedures for communicating incidents, injuries, concerns, and other important information
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding children, families, employees, and school information
Teamwork & Professionalism
  • Work collaboratively with lead teachers, assistant teachers, substitutes, and school leadership
  • Demonstrate flexibility when supporting different classrooms and age groups
  • Arrive on time and prepared for scheduled shifts
  • Maintain a professional and positive attitude
  • Follow Leaf Spring School policies, procedures, dress code, and brand standards
  • Participate in required trainings, meetings, and professional development opportunities
  • Maintain required certifications and training documentation
  • Be willing to assist with additional campus needs when appropriate
Qualifications
  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Genuine love for working with children
  • Dependable, patient, nurturing, and flexible
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to adapt to different classrooms, teaching teams, and age groups
  • Comfortable working with children from infancy through school age
  • Ability to follow classroom routines and directions from teachers and leadership
  • Technology proficiency and willingness to learn school communication and documentation systems
  • CPR and First Aid Certification preferred or willingness to obtain as required
  • Previous childcare, preschool, teaching, babysitting, camp, or youth-program experience preferred
  • Early Childhood Education coursework, credentials, or a CDA are a plus
