Schedule Details/Additional Information: Weekdays, Monday-Thursday 06:30a - 5:00p. A sign-on bonus is offered for this position to eligible candidates.

Pay Range: $35.50 - $53.25

Job Summary

The MRI Technologist I performs procedures in accordance with departmental protocols and standards. Operates MRI scanners and associated equipment with a high level of proficiency. This equipment includes scanners, post-processing stations/programs, IV contrast injectors, O2 and suction equipment, patient transport and patient monitoring equipment.

Essential Functions
  • Examines requests and verifies orders on each assigned patient, refers and questions orders to the radiologist before performing exam, and contacts the ordering provider when there are discrepancies.
  • Properly identifies patients using two patient identifiers, assists patients while offering a brief explanation of the procedures, prepares patients for the procedure with a full explanation, and documents on appropriate worksheets.
  • Interviews patients for a complete medical history, reviews in-patients, ER, and outpatients EMRs to obtain pertinent clinical history, records medical history on requisitions, and correlates other test results and laboratory data with the exam being performed.
  • Assumes responsibility for the exam from beginning until completion of dictated results.
  • Prepares and administers IV contrast according to departmental protocols and records contrast type and amount on request.
  • Evaluates technical quality of images, consults with a radiologist if needed, recognizes abnormal anatomy, and processes any additional, reconstructed images, and/or measurements as instructed.
  • Performs basic patient care functions, informs appropriate nursing personnel of any changes in the patient’s condition, initiates life support measures when necessary, and assists in “code blue” procedures during medical emergencies.
  • Performs MRI scanning and assists physicians/PA during invasive procedures, practices proper sterile technique in preparation of necessary supplies, and performs all invasive procedures in accordance with blood borne pathogens, isolation, and infection control policies and procedures.
  • Is authorized to obtain medication or contrast material as directed for administration by a licensed practitioner.
  • Practices the principle of radiation safety for self, employees, patients and family members, and follows appropriate radiation safety standards.
  • Reports malfunctioning equipment to the department director/manager/supervisor and to clinical engineering/radiology engineer.
  • Maintains knowledge and skills required to work safely in an environment that can create significant exposure to blood borne pathogens and infectious disease.
  • Adheres to the hospital fire and safety procedures, attends all in-service classes, and completes all required safety modules.
  • Operates the radiology computer system to enter orders and charge procedures/supplies, and documents contrast administration in the MAR.
  • Maintains assigned work area in a neat and orderly fashion, keeps the area completely stocked, and cleans all work areas to promote cleanliness in the workplace.
  • Assists other medical personnel, such as anesthesia, when performing exams or services in conjunction with an MRI scan.
  • Maintains knowledge of all MRI safety requirements for both staff and patients while in and around magnetic fields.
Minimum

Job Requirements

Education, Certification / License, Work Experience

Graduate of an institution accredited by an agency recognized by ARRT in Radiologic or Nuclear Medicine Technology. Active enrollment in an MRI ARRT registry eligible or ARMRIT program is required; the MRI registry must be obtained within one year of hire. CPR certification is required.

Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development and demonstrates the skills and competency appropriate to the ages, culture, developmental stages, and special needs of the patient population served.
