Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced ICU RN for a night shift travel contract requiring a minimum of 2 years of ICU experience and the ability to float across multiple regional facilities.
Responsibilities- 4-bed ICU unit within a 33-bed community hospital with no trauma designation
- Patient population includes Sepsis, ARDS, GI Bleeds, DKA, Cardiac Arrest, Withdrawal, Renal Failure, and other general ICU diagnoses (excluding Cardiac Surgical)
- Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:1–2; CNA support typically at a 1:10 ratio
- Critical care procedures include management of vasopressors, insulin and sedation drips, invasive lines (arterial and CVP), chest tubes, ventilator management, blood product administration, and wound care
- EMR:
Epic (experience required) - Equipment includes Alaris IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, telemetry monitors, bladder scanner, and stroke cart
- 12-hour night shifts, 7p–7a, 36 hours per week
- Every other weekend rotation required
- Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays
- No on-call or call-back requirements
- Floating is required across regional facilities within scope of practice, including Cabarrus, University City, Stanly, Lake Norman, and Central Division locations
- Orientation includes a hospital-wide NEO session followed by 2 days of departmental orientation
- Department support includes a 24/7 charge nurse, 24/7 respiratory therapy, 24/7 hospitalist coverage, and Intensivist coverage 9a–11a with VCC coverage for remaining hours
- RN is responsible for phlebotomy; limited in-hospital phlebotomy support is available
- IV/VAT team available for additional vascular access support
- Scheduling is done on a 6-week cycle
- RTO of up to 6 days may be approved, excluding holidays; any missed contracted hours must be made up at the end of the contract
- Navy scrubs required; free parking available
- First-time travelers are not preferred but will be considered with strong ICU experience
- Candidates who have held a permanent position at an AHSE facility must have been separated for at least 1 year to be eligible
- Active NC or compact RN license required
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
- Minimum 2 years of ICU RN experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
- Proficiency in critical care skills: vasopressor and sedation drip management, invasive line management, cardiac rhythm interpretation, ventilator management, blood products, and wound care
- Epic EMR experience required
- Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
- Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
- Candidate's permanent address must be located more than 50 miles from the home unit
