Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced ICU RN with at least two years of recent ICU experience and a compact RN license for 12‑hour night shifts on a regional resource team.

Responsibilities
  • Work in the ICU of a hospital as part of a regional float resource team
  • Patient population includes all critical care diagnoses except cardiac surgical patients, such as sepsis, ARDS, GI bleeds, DKA, cardiac arrest, withdrawal, and renal failure
  • Rounding ratio is 1:1‑2, with CNA support most times at a 1:10 ratio
  • Uses Epic EMR, Alaris IV pumps, and Omnicell medication dispensing
  • 12‑hour night shifts (7 pm–7 am) with every other weekend requirement
  • Mandatory floating within multiple facilities in the region based on need and within scope of practice
  • Travelers may be required to float between facilities mid‑shift and will remain on the clock during travel
  • Daily responsibilities include critical care monitoring, titration of drips, management of ventilators, and comprehensive patient care
  • Support team includes CNAs, 24/7 charge nurse, IV/VAT team, respiratory therapy, and hospitalists
  • Phlebotomy and some lab draws are RN responsibilities, with limited additional phlebotomy support available
  • Travelers are expected to work 75 % of assigned holidays
  • Up to 6 days of RTO may be approved, excluding holidays, with required extension to meet contracted hours if needed
  • Scrub color is navy and free parking is provided
  • Not a teaching hospital, no trauma designation, and not a chest‑pain or currently stroke‑accredited center
  • Orientation includes hospital orientation and 2 days of departmental orientation
  • First‑time travelers are accepted with strong ICU experience
Requirements
  • Active NC or compact RN license required
  • Minimum 2 years of recent ICU RN experience required
  • BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
  • Epic EMR experience preferred
  • General ICU skillset required including experience with critical care drips, invasive lines (ART/CVP), ventilator management, cardiac rhythm interpretation, blood product administration, and wound care
  • Full COVID and flu vaccination may be required
  • Must provide last 4 digits of SSN and full DOB for consideration
  • At least 1 professional reference from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN within the last year required
  • Must live at least 50 miles from the assigned facility; local candidates not accepted
  • Returning employees must be separated for at least one year after permanent employment at any related facility
