Registered Dental Assistant Orthodontic Permit (Healthcare)

Native Preference in hiring is given to qualified enrolled members of Paskenta Band of Nomlaki Indians and Native Americans in accordance with the Band's Preference Policy, Chapter 1-715 of the Paskenta Band of Nomlaki Indians Tribal Policies). POSITION SUMMARY

The Registered Dental Assistant with Orthodontic Permit (RDA/OA) will function as a circulating assistant in chairside dental procedures, under the direction of the Dental Site Manager. The RDA/OA will perform all dentistry procedures, clinic infection control procedures, cleaning and sterilization of instruments, tray setup and materials. This position will be required travel based on scheduling needs between Rolling Hills Clinic sites to help fill temporary staffing vacancies and/or shortages.

ESSENTIAL

JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Ability to perform all phases of four (4) handed Dental Assisting duties for endodontics, oral surgery, pedodontics, prosthodontics, orthodontics and restorative procedures.
  • Prepare teeth for bonding, and select, preposition, and cure orthodontic brackets after their position has been approved by the supervising licensed dentist.
  • Remove only orthodontic brackets and attachments with removal of the bonding material by the supervising licensed dentist.
  • Size, fit, and cement orthodontic bands.
  • Remove orthodontic bands and remove excess cement from supragingival surfaces of teeth with a hand instrument.
  • Place and ligate arch wires.
  • Remove excess cement with an ultrasonic scaler from supragingival surfaces of teeth undergoing orthodontic treatment.
  • Fabricates soaped orthodontic study models.
  • Fabricates Essix and Hawley Retainers.
  • Ability to perform standard and radiographic methods. Expose process and mount diagnostic radiographs.
  • Familiarity with dental terminology, materials, medications and instruments used during dental procedures.
  • Perform the following supportive tasks to ensure efficiency of patient flow: clean, sterilize instruments, and set up trays.
  • Maintain and test equipment (sterilizer, x-ray dosimetry, x-ray processor, etc.) including daily lubrication of equipment.
  • Effectively pour models and conduct other lab procedures.
  • Ability to instruct patients in oral hygiene and preventive dental education under the supervision of the dentist.
  • Review and document inventory and reorder supplies as necessary to maintain par levels.
  • Perform charting activities and document exam findings in patient record.
  • Maintain clean, orderly and well stocked operatory and laboratory.
  • Ability to plan work duties to ensure dental clinic efficiency.
  • Knowledge of patient scheduling procedures.
  • Work in conjunction with Staff Dentists/Dental team to develop and implement preventive dental activities for the community.

  • Must maintain compliance with ergonomic safety standards; be mindful of posture and regularly practice ergonomic stretches.

SCOPE OF WORK
  • Function chairside dental procedures as an RDA/OA.
  • Perform mouth-mirror inspections of the oral cavity, to include charting of obvious lesions, existing restorations, and missing teeth.
  • Apply and activate bleaching agents using a non-laser light-curing device.
  • Use of automated caries detection devices and materials to gather information for diagnosis by the dentist.
  • Obtain intraoral images for computer-aided design (CAD), milled restorations.
  • Pulp vitality testing and recording of findings.
  • Place bases, liners, and bonding agents.
