Job Details
Benefits Administration
  • Manages the daily administration of employee benefits, including retirement plans, FMLA and leave policies, wellness programs, and insurance offerings (health, life, workers' compensation, and disability)
  • Coordinates the enrollment, renewal, and delivery of benefits to employees
  • Serves as a resource for staff, answering questions and providing guidance on benefits programs
  • Acts as the point of contact for the 401(k)/Roth retirement program, managing communication with the plan provider, submitting documentation to the appropriate committee/trustee/actuary, coordinating enrollment meetings, handling hardship requests, and overseeing forfeiture accounts
  • Supports the Director in managing relationships with benefits vendors, brokers, and consultants
  • Reviews monthly premium statements for group insurance policies and resolves issues with carrier representatives
  • Tracks and analyzes data related to premiums, claims, and costs
  • Maintains and safeguards employee enrollment and medical files (physical and electronic) in line with record retention requirements
  • Maintains participation records for benefits plans, including insurance and pension
  • Investigates workplace accidents as needed and prepares related Workers' Compensation reports
  • Handles unemployment claims and prepares documentation for related hearings
  • Serves as the primary administrator for benefits within the HRIS, ensuring data accuracy and carrier integrations function properly; troubleshoots basic issues and coordinates vendor support
  • Processes employee payroll deductions related to benefits and 401(k) contributions
  • Maintains required HIPAA certification
Data, Analysis & Reporting
  • Keeps the HR Director informed on emerging trends and developments in employee benefits
  • Delivers annual program summaries for benefits offerings
  • Maintains regular communication with the HR Director through verbal and written updates
  • Analyzes data to identify early trends in claims costs
Compliance
  • Supports the Director in ensuring benefits and compensation practices comply with applicable federal, state, Tribal, and other relevant regulations
  • Assists in preparing required government reports, including ACA filings, annual reports, and audits
  • Ensures accurate processing and recordkeeping for all benefits program documentation
  • Ensures timely, accurate reporting of Workers' Compensation claims
  • Keeps employees informed of benefit changes that affect their coverage
  • Produces routine reports to support compliance, payroll, and management needs
  • Drafts and maintains SOPs covering all areas of benefits administration
Workplace Wellness
  • Builds, launches, and manages a comprehensive employee wellness program
  • Recommends budget and funding allocations for wellness initiatives
  • Reviews program participation data and identifies opportunities to boost engagement
  • Oversees wellness programs across relevant entities, as assigned
  • Administers the medical leave program and guides employees through the leave request process
Collaboration & Support
  • Supports the employee off-boarding process
  • Participates in HR department events and company-sponsored programs
  • Partners closely with payroll, finance, and HR colleagues to ensure smooth operations, including payroll support and recordkeeping as needed
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field, plus 2 years of experience in benefits administration or a closely related area; or 6 years of relevant benefits administration experience in lieu of a degree
  • THRP certification, or ability to obtain within the first year of employment
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft applications
  • Working knowledge of employee benefits programs, including group insurance, life, medical, vision, dental, accident/disability coverage, 401(k) and pension plans, COBRA, and wellness initiatives
  • Experience working in HR for a Tribal entity is preferred, though not required
  • Valid driver's license
