We are seeking highly motivated and skilled scientist to join our innovative Brittle Materials team in Product Reliability Technology directorate. This role offers an excellent opportunity for a highly skilled scientist with a strong background in mechanical, or materials engineering to advance the development of fundamental mechanical behavior models, reliability methodologies, and characterization techniques for glass, glass-ceramics, ceramics and thin optical films.
As part of Corning's core research organization, you will support development of cutting-edge solutions that support our key business units like Automotive, Mobile Consumer Electronics, and Advanced Optics.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with scientists and project leaders to plan and execute experiments that support project objectives.
- Prepare test specimens, perform routine standardized testing, support non-standard experiments and method development, and maintain and troubleshoot equipment.
- Apply mechanics-of-materials principles to design tests and characterize material performance.
- Compile results and develop communication materials for project partners and leaders.
- Coordinate with labs and stakeholders to achieve desired outcomes.
Experiences/Education
- Required:
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, materials engineering or a related field.
- Minimum 1 year experience in mechanical and materials engineering position, preferably involving inorganic brittle materials.
- Self-starter with the ability to work independently.
- Strong hands-on technical aptitude.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and committed to rigorous execution and accurate data collection.
Experiences/Education
- Preferred:
- Master's degree
- Familiarity with the applicability of characterization tools such as SEM, TEM, SIMS, microscope, optical profiler etc.
- Familiarity with instrumentation, DAQ systems, CAD software, Math and data analysis tools.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in mechanical testing and characterization such as 2PB,4PB, RoR etc., or hands on experience in building and operating mechanical test equipment.
- Familiar with AI/ML tools or computer programming skills such as python scripting.
The range for this position is $66,381.00 - $91,274.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
