The Coordinator of Residential Life & Retention is responsible for promoting a student community living experience and the implementation of the Residential Life Retention Plan that fosters individual responsibility, community building, and academic and personal growth. Additionally, the Coordinator of Residential Life & Retention works collaboratively with colleagues in managing the operations of the residence hall, overseeing daily facility functions and maintaining accurate administrative records, including room inventories and occupancy, maintenance requests, and incident reports.

This role supports the residential programs (academic and social), student services, and establishes a safe, inclusive environment through leadership, supervision, and crisis management. This is a required live-in position with a flexible work schedule, including evenings and weekend responsibilities as dictated by programming needs. Occasional meetings at different CCC locations and in the community may be required; travel to conferences and/or recruiting events may be required as well as occasional travel for other position-related activities.

Prolonged time sitting/standing working with computers and monitors; ability to walk/move across campus and throughout the building, including walking up and down stairs; ability to lift up to 50 pounds (occasionally may be more); repeated motions may include keyboard typing. This is a required live-in campus position in the residence hall. Typical office and indoor building environments, occasional outdoor activity may be required.

Essential Functions

Building & Residential Management (55%):

  • Develop and implement orientation programs and arrival weekend schedules/activities for new residential students in Perry Hall
  • Assist with crisis intervention and conflict management, including mental health incidents, roommate conflicts, and staffing issues
  • Lead monthly hall meetings in Perry Hall and provide recommendations to supervisor(s) for changes and improvements resulting from ongoing tracking of concerns emerging from hall meetings
  • Manage operational aspects of Perry Hall, including residence hall openings/closings, room assignments, wait lists, key control, damage assessments, and the input/maintenance of residential contracts (Banner Housing Module); maintain and disseminate housing and occupancy information to residents and the CCC community
  • Development and implementation of policies and procedures, Residence Life Handbook, trainings/initiatives
  • Participate in 24-hour duty rotation, including evening and weekends
  • Conduct safety and fire inspections regularly in collaboration with Public Safety and Building & Grounds
  • Maintain room and mailbox key inventory and perform regular audits
  • Maintain ongoing professional working relationships with other Student Services staff, Athletics, Food Service, Public Safety, Student Assistance Program, Retention & Educational Planning, Learning Center, faculty, and other personnel to support a safe, healthy, supportive, and engaging academic environment for residents
  • Provide support to the Student Life staff in promoting, implementing, and assessing student activities and programming as well as the Student Leadership Program
  • Develop and implement summer programming for residence and conference guests, as applicable

Resident Assistant (RA) and Student Worker Oversight (15%):

  • Recruit, select, train, supervise, and evaluate Resident Life staff (RA's);
    Coordinate staff duty coverage schedule
  • Coordinate and implement a robust RA onboarding program that fosters the knowledge and skills necessary to provide a safe and inclusive environment for residents; implement engaging programming; and promote community building
  • Meet monthly with entire RA staff, conduct bi-weekly one-on-ones with each RA, and provide ongoing mentorship/professional development
