Build the Future with Corning
At Corning, innovation starts with the people who turn ideas into reality. We are seeking a skilled Machinist to join our Sullivan Park Research & Development team, where you will help fabricate prototype parts, tools, and equipment that support cutting-edge technology development.
This is not a high-volume production role. This is R&D machining in a highly innovative environment, where precision, creativity, and problem-solving come together to support new technologies and breakthrough ideas.
If you take pride in building complex, high-quality parts and enjoy working on unique projects, this is an opportunity to do meaningful work with advanced equipment in a world-class development setting.
What You'll Do:
- Fabricate and assemble prototype parts and equipment for research and development projects.
- Set up and operate a variety of CNC and manual machines, including:
- CNC Lathes.
- 3-axis and 5-axis CNC Mills.
- Wire EDM.
- Surface Grinders.
- Drill Presses.
- Manual Lathes.
- Manual Mills.
- Straight Vertical Milling Machines.
- Write, edit, and modify machine programs to meet design specifications and quality standards.
- Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and technical specifications.
- Inspect finished parts using precision measuring equipment.
- Troubleshoot machining and process issues.
- Perform routine maintenance on machines and equipment.
- Work closely with designs, ideas, and prototype concepts to bring new technology to life.
Required:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- One of the following:
- 4 years of applicable machine shop experience or military equivalent.
- Journeyman or Class "A" status.
- 2-year Machine Tool Technology degree.
- Certificate in a relevant field with at least 1 year of experience.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong attention to detail, craftsmanship, and problem-solving ability.
- Experience with Mastercam, Solid Works, or NC programming software.
- 5-axis machining experience.
- Experience with Haas, Mazak, Fanuc, or similar controls.
Why This Role Stands Out:
- Work in Research & Development, not repetitive production.
- Support cutting-edge technology and prototype development.
- Use advanced tooling and equipment.
- Join a highly skilled team in an innovative, collaborative environment.
- Gain opportunities for training and skill development.
- Build parts and equipment that help shape the future of technology.
- 2nd shift: 2:00 PM - 10:00 PM.
- 720 hour working probationary period.
