Newly Licensed Registered Nurse

This position is part of the collective bargaining unit.

Position Summary:

Provides high quality nursing care for assigned patients in a scientific and humanistic focus. The Newly Licensed Registered Nurse (NLRN) utilizes a holistic systems approach to protect and promote client wellness and safety in the physiological, psychological, social cultural, developmental, and spiritual domains. Nursing interventions are interdisciplinary, age specific and are directed toward optimal wellness.

Education, License & Cert:
The NLRN must be a graduate of a Diploma, Associate Degree or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program and have passed the state board examination by the New York State Board of Nursing before beginning employment. NLRNs who are graduates of a Diploma or Associate Degree program or possess a non‐Nursing Bachelor's Degree must demonstrate completion of a BSN program within 5 years of hire.

The NLRN must successfully complete a medication and IV challenge examination, as outlined by the hospital within the orientation period, as well as maintain CPR certification.

Experience:

The NLRN enters practice at a Guthrie Hospital through the Newly Licensed Registered Nurse Residency Program. Clinical specialty tracks may be offered at individual hospitals. Registered nurses with less than one year's experience must be hired through the program and may not be hired directly into an open position on any specific unit.

Essential Functions:

  • Assessment:
    The NLRN collects data and information relative to the healthcare consumer's health or the situation
  • Diagnosis:
    The NLRN analyzes the assessment data to determine actual or potential diagnoses, problems, and issues.
  • Outcomes Identification:
    The NLRN identifies expected outcomes for a plan individualized to the healthcare consumer or the situation.
  • Planning:
    The NLRN develops a plan that prescribes strategies to attain expected, measurable outcomes.
  • Implementation:
    The NLRN implements the identified plan.
  • Coordinator of Care:
    The NLRN coordinates care delivery.
  • Health Teaching and Health Promotion
  • Evaluation:
    The NLRN evaluates progress toward the attainment of goals and outcomes.
  • Performs nursing care in compliance with nursing standards of practice, standards of professional performance, the American Nurses' Association Code of Ethics for Nurses and the organization's policies and procedures.

Other Duties:

  • Assumes leadership responsibility when appropriate.
  • Participates in the planning and presentation of educational programs. (Clinical Ladders Nurses)

Pay range is from $38.34-$54.80
