** Role Purpose*
* The ideal candidate will support the operation, development, and continuous improvement of the Glow Discharge - Optical Emission Spectroscopy (GD-OES) laboratory, providing timely characterization of materials in support of R&D projects.  Maintaining the flow of samples through the GD-OES lab, processing the GD-OES data and troubleshooting instrument issues as necessary, are the primary responsibilities.

** Key Responsibilities*
* + Operate two GD-OES instruments safely, efficiently, and reliably by preparing, loading, and analyzing samples according to R&D project priorities and deadlines.

+ Perform routine instrument checks, maintenance, troubleshooting, and coordination of service activities as appropriate.

+ Plan technical, analytical, documentation, and administrative work around instrument run times.

+ Maintain organized experimental records, data, sample information, and laboratory documentation through lab notebooks, SOPs, technical reports, and group presentations either in person or over Teams.

+ Develop increasing expertise in GD-OES theory, applications, analytical limitations, and best practices through independent learning and technical literature.

+ Communicate results, observations, limitations, and technical conclusions to supervisor and project teams.

+ Identify opportunities to improve laboratory efficiency, analytical quality, and GD-OES capability.

+ Contribute to broader characterization and technical assignments across the department as instrument workload varies.

** Experiences/Education - Required*
* + Minimum BS degree in a chemistry, physics, material science or related discipline

+ 0-2 years experience both operating and troubleshooting analytical instrumentation.

+ Strong aptitude and enthusiasm to learn new techniques, methods, and analytical equipment

+ Ability to analyze scientific data and interpret results.

+  Ability to evaluate data quality and validity.

+ Good technical writing and verbal communication skills

** Experiences/Education - Desired*
* + Strong statistics background.
