Classroom Assistant

The Classroom Assistant is responsible for the supervision, safety, and attending to the needs of the children in the elementary classrooms and campus. The Classroom Assistant must be aligned with the vision of Crossroads Christian School's mission and policies. He/She must have a cheerful and positive disposition. He/She must be committed, loyal, attentive, kind, thoughtful, supportive, faithful, honest, aware, alert, watchful, prayerful, and disciplined.

He/She must be proactive in supervising the children, providing a safe environment for them and looking out for their well-being and safety at all times. He/She must also be proactive in engaging the children in organized activities. He/She must perform their job with a positive and joyful attitude.

Working under the direction of the teaching staff, the Classroom Assistant supports the teacher in the observation and supervision of each child assigned to their care at all times during scheduled work hours. The Assistant shall be a Born-again, Evangelical Christian who feels called by God to teach in a Christian School. At all times, the Classroom Assistant will model Christ-like character by engaging in behavior and conversations that are appropriate for children, parents, and co-workers.

Essential Job Functions for both the part time and full time Classroom Assistant positions:

• Ensure children are supervised at all times in the classroom and on the playground.
• Provide a safe and secure environment for children to feel safe and comfortable.
• Implement positive and appropriate discipling when required. Follow Administrator and Teacher's direction in carrying out discipline and/or behavior management plans.
• Assistants must be able to positively interact with all students and share the love of Christ. This includes difficult students, students who work below grade-level and students whose personalities may be difficult. Assistants are required to put aside their own feelings in order to treat all students with respect, provide them all with equal opportunities for learning, and make them feel comfortable in the learning environment.
• Build children's esteem.
• Possess effective verbal and listening communication skills.
• Clearly and effectively communicate in a manner that children understand.
• Establish routines and provide positive guidance.
• Clearly have knowledge and understanding of policies and procedures.
• Interact and engage with children on their level.
• Assist children with personal hygiene.
• Assist children with snacks and lunch.
• Provide needed first-aid or medical care. Report any accidents/incidents immediately and complete appropriate paperwork as required.
• Following teacher's directions and guidelines assist with: curriculum/activities, playground supervision, daily prep, daily classroom cleaning, equipment and toy sanitization, & organizational needs.
• Attend all required In-Service training meetings.
• Be actively involved in supporting school events and family fellowship activities.
• Participate in school events (Open House, Spring Program, etc.)

In addition to all of the above, the Full-Time Classroom Assistant will have the additional functions:

• Provide after-school care and/or before-school care, making sure the children are supervised at all times.
• Administer a homework room.
• Provide and administer various experiences and organized activities appropriate for children such as crafts, indoor and outdoor games, songs, storytelling, and bible lessons.

Requirements:

High School Diploma.

Working Conditions:

• Able to work outside in inclement weather (50 °or less, 90° or more, rain, wind,) to supervise children at all times.
• Able to stoop, kneel, bends at the waist, crawl, and reach on daily basis.
• Able to write on the whiteboard and prepare bulletin boards
• Able to lift and move up to 50 pounds occasionally.
