Crossroads SCHOOL - Classroom Assistant; Part-Time

General Description

The Classroom Assistant is responsible for the supervision, safety, and attending to the needs of the children in the Elementary classrooms and campus.

The Classroom Assistant must be aligned with the vision of Crossroads Christian School’s mission and policies and must exhibit a cheerful, positive, committed, loyal, attentive, kind, thoughtful, supportive, faithful, honest, aware, alert, watchful, prayerful, and disciplined disposition. The assistant is expected to proactively supervise the children, provide a safe environment, look out for their well‑being and safety at all times, engage them in organized activities, and perform their job with a positive and joyful attitude.

Working under the direction of the teaching staff, the Classroom Assistant supports the teacher in the observation and supervision of each child assigned to their care at all times during scheduled work hours. The Assistant should be a Born‑again, Evangelical Christian who feels called by God to teach in a Christian School and should model Christ‑like character in behavior and conversations with children, parents, and coworkers.

• Ensure children are supervised at all times in the classroom and on the playground.
• Provide a safe and secure environment for children to feel safe and comfortable.
• Implement positive and appropriate discipline when required. Follow Administrator and Teacher’s direction in carrying out discipline and/or behavior management plans.
• Interact positively with all students, including difficult students, those working below grade‑level, and students with challenging personalities, treating all students with respect and equal opportunity.
• Build children’s esteem.
• Possess effective verbal and listening communication skills and communicate in a manner that children understand.
• Establish routines and provide positive guidance.
• Have knowledge and understanding of policies and procedures.
• Interact and engage with children on their level.
• Assist children with personal hygiene, snacks and lunch.
• Provide needed first‑aid or medical care and report any accidents/incidents immediately, completing appropriate paperwork as required.
• Follow teacher’s directions and guidelines to assist with curriculum/activities, playground supervision, daily prep, classroom cleaning, equipment and toy sanitization, and organizational needs.
• Attend all required in‑service training meetings.
• Be actively involved in supporting school events and family fellowship activities.
• Participate in school events such as Open House and Spring Program.

• Provide after‑school and/or before‑school care, ensuring children are supervised at all times.
• Administer a homework room.
• Provide and administer various experiences and organized activities appropriate for children such as crafts, indoor and outdoor games, songs, storytelling, and Bible lessons.

• High School Diploma.

• Able to work outside in inclement weather (50 °or less, 90 ° or more, rain, wind) to supervise children at all times.
• Able to stoop, kneel, bend at the waist, crawl, and reach on a daily basis.
• Able to write on the whiteboard and prepare bulletin boards.
• Able to lift and move up to 50 pounds occasionally.
• Able to climb stairs as needed.
• Able to quickly summon help when an emergency arises either in the classroom or on the playground.
• Able to render minimal first aid and CPR to students who may be injured while in the classroom or on the playground.
• Able to escort and supervise children and move them from one area to another as a cohesive unit.
• Able to move freely inside the classroom to monitor students.

• Regular and on‑time attendance.
• Hours may include some evening events and activities.
• Occasional travel to conferences and off‑campus meetings.
• Ability to deal with difficult students and parents/guardians.
• Manage classroom, including the supervision of assistants and aides assigned to work in your classroom.
• Accept transitions/changes in schedule (due to weather, special activities, programming) with a positive “can‑do” attitude.

Pay Grade: CCS Pay Grade 2
