Fire Sprinkler Design Assistant Manager - Senior Level — Corona, CA
The LA / Orange County District office of Cosco Fire Protection is seeking a leadership-oriented, technically skilled professional to grow and guide the design team. The role focuses on mentoring staff, improving processes and best practices, and contributing to the design department and business in the Corona market.
Responsibilities- Direct team activities and prioritize/coordinate schedules to design new fire sprinkler/suppression systems.
- Provide technical oversight and review of sprinkler drawings, calculations, fabrication lists, and other deliverables.
- Develop process improvements to enhance efficiency, consistency, and quality of the final product.
- Support Designers in coordinating with MEP teams and General Contractors for BIM (Building Information Modeling) using current programs (e.g., Revit, Navis Works).
- Resolve problems using new techniques, technologies, and concepts.
- Confer with management, production, and installation staff to determine engineering feasibility, cost effectiveness, and customer demand for new and existing systems.
- Provide guidance on code interpretation and perform first-level plan review.
- Provide training and coaching for the development of individual designers.
- Recruiting and staffing to meet design needs for business growth.
- Maintain knowledge of new technologies that may improve operations and make recommendations accordingly.
- Ability to read and interpret construction documents (drawings, specifications, ASIs, etc.).
- Strong analytical and mathematical aptitude.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel), AutoCAD, and Fire Sprinkler Design software (e.g., Auto Sprink, HydraCAD). Auto Sprink experience preferred.
- Working knowledge of hydraulic calculations, stock listing, project design, and project management; ability to review and approve work produced by other designers.
- Practical experience designing Wet, Dry, Deluge, and Pre-Action Sprinkler Systems; design experience with fire pumps and standpipes is required.
- Special Hazards design experience (e.g., fixed water spray, clean agent, foam) is a plus.
- Strong familiarity with general construction practices and terms.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Comfortable negotiating with customers, vendors, etc.
- Organized, detail-oriented, self-starter able to operate in a team environment.
- Working knowledge of NFPA 13, 13D, 13R, 14, 20, 25 and associated Codes/Standards.
- High school diploma or equivalent; postsecondary education preferred.
- 7 years (10+ years preferred) of experience in Fire Protection Design & PM.
- Previous fire sprinkler designer supervision experience a plus.
- Experience with Revit, Navis Works, and Auto Sprink a plus.
- NICET III (minimum); NICET IV or PE preferred.

This role has formal supervisory responsibility, with the ability to lead entry/mid-level designers on multiple projects and review/approve their work product.
Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) from a four-year college or university; or eight to ten years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
